I just maidened my Striker F27C today.
I am really happy with this aircraft
Flys real nice out of the box. Very smooth. Enought Power for now.
Its really nice to buy something that flys this well out of the box.
I hate spending money on " Upgrades" so it will fly .

Agree with Maiden, you should find a quick source for servos or even buy one or two extra. When you loose one you don't want to have any long down time...

The F-27B comes with 5 wire servos. To get different kind of servos, you need a new radio and speed control.

For now, you can have 2 extra stock servos ($10/each)ready to go for quick change at the field.
After changing the servos make sure that both sides are using the same length servo arms. I've seen different length arms in a friend's Stryker....LOL flew really weird till I helped him figure it out.

I suggest that you also buy a couple of sets of gears $2.50/set.
At the field you'll change servos, then back home you can use the gear sets to repair your stripped servos for $2.50.

A roll of 3M packing tape and/or 3M Extreme tape can go far. At the field, after a bad crash, you can tape up the plane and finish the day's flying with some tape. Back at home you can remove tape and use glue/epoxy, etc... to do a good repair job.

Start reading about the great mods that you can do now so your plane lives through most mishaps and to ensure that the damages are minimized in a crash.

FOR F-27C ......

maiden-crash is 100% correct, go for Hitec HS81 or better yet HS81MG (metal gear).

HS 81 will be great in flight, but may strip in a crash. If you buy this, also buy a gear set so you don't have to have down time after a bad crash while you locate a set or wait for your LHS to get some. I stripped many sets on a Zagi while I was learning to fly.

HS 81MG is still perfect after most normal crashes. This one gets my vote.[8D]

This time I tried HS 85 MG, but never again, it is not needed. Even on 6V it is slower than HS81 on 4.8V. The extra strength is not needed in a Stryker even at 100+ MPH. And it costs more.

no....not on the "C" model. It comes with 3 wire servo's. At least the plug and play does. I believe the RTF does too.

Just gots mine set up last night. Waiting to maiden. There is a storm brewing so it may be a few days.

I didn't like the short wires on the stock servos. I had to put the RX back next to the ESC... which I don't like, AND the back cover is "staked" in and does not go back on and stay on easily.

Contruction is all right. It has a few dings that you can tell are from people tossing them around durring the manufaturing.

All in all not bad. The motor is real smoothe. seems like a lot of power.

We shall see.

Get the HS81MGs. For the length of time you'll have them, the few extra bucks is worth it to go with the metal gears. Less chance of having to swap out gear sets due to stripping.

FWIW,

I put together my second one with a 480, two S75's, and a 25amp esc and it flies great. Absolutely no problems when taking it through the paces on a 9 cell. Haven't used a lipo.

The Stryker is a great plane. A great second plane for anyone IHMO.

I agree. I usually fly Helis. It was a nice " First flight " after a 6 year absence from planes.
Yes, I am going to have fun with my F27C. The best part was my field has 8 " of snow on it.
Don't need a runway for Helis or the Striker

Make sure to get (2) 3" servo wire extensions. The supplied servo wires on the Hitec 81MG are too short.

If you are one of the best pilots, then go for HS 81. Otherwise Hitec 81MG is the better servo due to normal/real life situations.
With 81MG you'll come out ahead and be happier.

Picture this, after a crash or bad landing you examine the bird and all looks great. You throw it back up and then the stripped gear servo with some force on it shows its ugly teeth. That crash will cost you more in a damaged battery and/or repair time than price difference of the MG versus non-MG servo.

You can kick up some monster rooster tails doing touch and goes in that snow. Ask me how I know THAT! Woohoo talk about fun!!!

HS-81MGs all the way. They are practically made for the Stryker minus the slightly short wires. I would simply buy an extension because if you are like me...then your soldering skills suck too. I only solder when I have to.[>:]

I flys GREAT in a 20 mph wind. WOT down wind is NICE .

I somewhat remember my brother flying with it. He hated it on 7 cells, but said on 8 cell it was much better. He was referring to the performance difference he felt by adding the unit on top.

I FLEW MY STRYKER AND BOTH THE P-51 AND 190 IN WINDS 25-30 TODAY! the stryker cuts right through the wind the other two i could hover in the air and they looked like kites. i always launch my pz planes with wind that way i never crash on to due to going too slow
