Slow Stick, 8-cell 720mah NiMh, and Pixie-7P ESP
Want to use the 8-cell 720mah NiMh packs and Pixie-7P off my "retired" RRC Edge.
Will this set up work with the standard Slow Stick EPS 300C engine combo? At what point will the current exceed the capacity of the Pixie-7P
Also, I have the "Black Dymond" engine from Dave Hacker at Radical RC. Believe this is a hotter version of the GWS 370 motor in the EPS 300C combo and I will swap it out for the Black Dymond. Does anyone know the difference between these two motors? Any how many flights can you get before they lose power?
New to this electric stuff. Thanks guys.

You should be able to use it. 7A continuous 10A surge. I wouldn't fly at 100% throttle for a whole flight though.

It will fly fine. The 720 nimh pack will not put out the same power as a nicad pack, but it will still fly well.

Most of the 720 packs are good for about 5 amps
much more than that they will die real fast.
I run mine on 8 600ae cells with a timed motor
It will draw about 7 amps
Now I went brushless
even better

Full power will kill the 720 packs eventually but at $.75 per cell who cares? http://www.mcmelectronics.com/Search...ml?SKU=58-7745
Mike
ps. it also makes the plane much lighter.

Yes but yesterday my buddy had a problem after 12 to 15 sec
The motor stopped, we put a fresh charged pack on "8 cell 720"
with are astro watt meter his motor pulled 7.1 amp and it cut out in 10 sec the motor was a speed 300. So it maybe lighter but what good are they. You have to match your battery by the load on it.
Not just use anyone for anything in the end it will cost you allot more then getting the right one the first time

I run speed 300's almost exclusively on 720's. I have put a meter on them and pulled over 8.5 amps at the beginning of a charge. They will pull my 14.5 ounce aerobat vertical. I have been running this setup for almost a year, and I do 90% of my flying at full throttle. I do wear out a pack every once in a while, but it takes quite a bit of flying. There are also four other guys that I fly with that do the same thing. I use 8 cells on a 300C with a 10X4.7 or 9X7 prop, and 12X6 on a 300D drive.
Rager,
It sounds like you were getting a massive voltage drop that made the BEC kick in...he wasn't trying to run it direct drive was he? I would be interested in hearing what prop/gearbox setup your tests were under. Maybe your friend has a bad pack.
Mike
ps...if you want to see what this setup will do check out the videos portion of my website at www.michaelconnally.com
The ifo, GrAnd Now, Rat, and Poppy are all flying off this same setup.

Is that Poppy flying with the stock drive (gear and motor and prop) if not what did you change? What are your throws like on it? I can't get mine to be so responsive.

LT Chip,
I am guessing that you like it? More info and pics are available on my "current models" page here http://www.michaelconnally.com/current.htm
370B drive with a 9X7 prop and 8 cell 720 nimhs. Tail feathers are much larger and made off fanfold, but it would loop in a gym with the stock tail. Throws are almost maxed out. AUW is 16OZ with nimhs.

Sorry....the video was the first day after I put it together....so it still had the stock tail on it. Throws were maxed out. It's more responsive due to the lighter weight and it being so overpowered. Now it is even better due to the enlarged tail feathers.

Like it? Yup!
I was very impressed. Thanks for the info on the mods. Mine was my first plane so it is RIP. But I liked the high lift airfoil so much that I always debated getting another one. Seeing yours made up my mind. It is now - "on the list".
