GWS Planes
Hey All! With GWS coming out with some great new kits, plus all of the classics, I just though it would be cool if everyone posted there GWS kits here. Please type a short paragraph about any mods, special features, cool histories/stories or anything else that you think you might want to add! I will be posting my Me-109 soon, as soon as my digital camera comes. Thanks!

[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/gallery/galleryitemSolo.cfm?itemid=88295]Zero at Sunset[/link]
My GWS Zero is around 17ounces, i use a 3 blade 9x7 prop with 2" Dubro spinner, I swap between two types of TP 3s 2100mah Lipos, a Phoenix 25amp ESC that I had laying around, and 3 HS-55 servos.
I didn't do the main wing LE incidence mod that most guys do when they go with a bigger power plant, I just did a mix between my throttle and some downward elevator trim.
In case you don't know what that is, apparently the aerodynamics of the main wing give it a lot of lift - which is fine for the stock 350 brushed motor but if you go with more power, the angle of attack on the wing will force your plane upward - hence on my maiden flight, with no incidence modifications, every time I'd throttle her past the half way mark, the plane would litterally RISE upward hehe. So, the fix is to either do what I did with the mixing or to change the angle of attack on the wing by shifting the LE of the main wing downward or the trailing edge higher.
Imho, flying a PZ SLo-V and a PZ Focke Wulf, I highly recommend the GWS over the PZ Warbirds any day...the quality of the kit overall has a far sturdiness and leaves a lot of room for modification and parts far more inexpensive. $35 for a full GWS kit versus $30 for just the PZ FW fuselage? yeah, nuff said lol!

RE: GWS Planes
Heres my old Beaver (about 4 years old I think). Pretty much stock, has been through 3 motors now all 300-350 brushed. Main modification is the addition of a K/F step to the undercamber airfoil. The speed range is greatly improved, not as much drag and also the glide is much better. Slow speed is almost the same and it also makes the wing much stronger and doesnt jump around as much in the breeze.
It is one of my favorite go-to planes. Nice parkflyer!!!!!!!
Happy Flying

RE: GWS Planes
OK, I want to play, here are a couple of mine, some of these were given to me by freinds and were in some need of repair, a couple were just my ideas to mod the plane. most are now gone. you just can't beat a GWS plane for good cheap fun, in the pics we have a formosa, a modded E-Starter made into a water plane, a ME-109 and a E-Starter modded after a cessna and a A-10
All are using BP motors and 3S lipos, the water plane met it's demise on it's second flight when a weak built elevator linkage failed, the formosa was lost early one morning to orientation issues
the A-10 was lost due to newby at the sticks

RE: GWS Planes
Seeing as this thread has been brought back to life I thought I might put up my GWS models - nice estarter Kid_who_flyes (heh - I'm just copying your spelling ).
Tigermoth - my first aileron plane - is more hot glue than foam now - twisted and evil (seriously I can't find a trim position that works at all throttle speeds). Stock power plant, I run her on a 3s1500mAh. But I still get a kick out of flying her.
Zero - my second aileron plane - this plane has given me so much joy - I did the wing incidence mod - it is simple - even if you have already built it. Mine runs on a 1500kv brushless outrunner (ewatts R2212) which had to be mounted to a plywood firewall with a 7x5 prop and 3s power (typical pack size 1200mAh).

RE: GWS Planes
ozrcboy::: You might can help me!!!fly'in the stock set-up on a 3- cell has'nt give'in you any prob's? I've been run two-cells on my GWS brushed moters as I've heard three can burn'um up, I wondered if I keep my thumb lite on the old throdle do you think I can run three-cells on mine? I made a home-build verson of that formosa-(FORZEBRA)as I don't have an extra40$ + shipp'in so I just did-up a foam chuncker I found at the toy isle at the hardware-store(tiny town I live near) An made it as forzebra ,an it flys like my E-Starter before she got half-dozon OZ's of Epoxy& micro ballons, floats, 480E-flight outie (WAY to much motor)Monster 3-cells,etc, I'd love to think I could use my 3-cells on her!!!//////////Im_a_Kid_who_flyes:: good job mybub! Like ozrcboy sez', get a tiger-moth (EP 400), You'll be torn between witch is your favorate for quite some time!!!ya'll's bub scoooperPS::AJ1202 :: How'ed that E-starter twin boom float turn out? RE: GWS Planes
Hi Scooper - 3s on a speed 400 no problems - you might shorten the motor life a smidgen (although my TM motor is still going strong after 30 flights or so). 3s on a speed 350 would be a bit hot I think. Early in the Zero's career I nosed her in and smashed the gearbox. Rather than replace with a speed 350 I decided to fix a balance problem at the same problem by installed a speed 400 and gearbox. Ran her brushed on 3s for quite a while - no probs.

RE: GWS Planes
Well, I sorta have a Slow Stick, but with the stock motor and 3S, 1200 mAh li-po it absolutely sucked. The other day I put a BL motor on it and went for short hop in the street with my trusty li-po ( my heli is nice and SHARES its batts). Well, my "short hop" turned to a "space-shuttle- wannabe-insane-psychotic-10,000-mph-pre-WW1-plane-gone-crazy-hop". Now I have a broken motor mount, and I never even got to the park It flew well, though, for those few looooonngg seconds.

RE: GWS Planes
Oh, and I'm not flying a Slo-flyer prop. I have a Master Airscrew nylon-fiberglass thing that hasn't broken for at least 10 crashes. But my last flight, The Brushless Experience, was with a 5 inch one from a Cox .049 engine. Can't wait till I have a new mount so I can wave pure brushless power under my friend's nose!
