Default Favorite GWS planes?

I got a GWS pico fd stick, relearned on it, flew it till the thing wore out, got another one was headed the same way but the wing snapped at 200 ft and it wasnt worth repairing, and I thought I was ready to move on so I got a crazy max, well long story short I wasnt ready for this thing and the last flight ended with me hitting the school library.. so I got a minimax but havent even gotten it out of the box yet............I wish I would have stayed with GWS....Rog

Default Favorites

Been flying for over 20 years. Flown just about everything out there. Pylon, pattern, Heli's, scale, giant scale, but most of all I love my GWS lite stik on floats. Still one of my favorite planes for some lazy Sunday afternoon flying.

I like doing touch and goes on our pool!

My favorite (electric) gws plane has to be the e-starter. It is a good cruise around plane, or it can do some moderate aerobatics. If you want to know my favorite gws plane it would be my glow stick, no this is not a typo. It is my slow stick with a .061(norvel). See the pics.

It is hard to pick a favorite, but I would say the Tiger Moth is #1 for me, it flies so gracefully. #2 is a tie between the Beaver and the E-starter. I have owned the P-51 but did not like it too much. I also own the zero but haven't flown it yet.

I have a Sig Rascal 49 in the mail. Hopefully, that will overtake the Beaver, and even the Fundango, for my fav parkflyer.

However, since were on the subject of GWS planes, anyone know the CG point for the Beaver???

The Beaver CG is 45-55 mm from the wing LE, according to the book. Hoping to maiden mine today, sans floats.

Today, I was feeling a little frisky, and threw the beaver into 10mph winds, 2mph gusts, and made those spendy VTOL machines look silly. I dont know why, but my book said nothing about the CG point, or the recommended throws. After seeing the recommendation of approx.50mm, i was happy to see my beaver at 2 inches or 50mm.

Default GWS

My favorite for teaching my kids to fly was the TigerMoth. But, I love flying the Zero myself.

Hope to move the kids up to that, but will probably take them to gas first.

I have had 2 lite-sticks, a tigermoth, and 2 Zeros. The lite sticks were great on a totally calm day but my favorite so far is the Tigermoth. I had a 7 cell, 110mah nicad that I could charge for 10 minutes and fly for 6-7. Pretty good ratio. It also was easy and relaxing to fly. As for the Zeros, the first one I dolled up by sanding off all the paint and repainting and using a large 7 cell battery. It turned out the paint and graphics added about 3 eounces and it didn't fly well. I bought a second and will use a thinned house paint after sanding off all of the green paint. I picked a color scheme out of the Squadron book. If anyone is interested, I'll try to post a picture. It did turn out good looking, I think.

Cant wait for the A-10.

If anyone has any great set-ups for the Zero, let me know(brushless).

Doug

Well I did it. I went to the hobby shop with intentions to just buy a piece of plywood for the fire wall of my Great Planes Fundango, when there it was, in all its beauty, on the top shelf, the GWS A-10. Needless to say the idea of walking out of the store with anything but a new plane left all concisenesses. It only took about 4 hours with lots of breaks to allow for drying, but its 80% finished, and hopefully, if weather is good, I will have a good idea of weather or not this is my new favorite GWS plane.

By far the A-10, more stable and faster than the P-51, looks great and flies beautifully. I'm going to get another!!!!!!!!

what battery are you running in your a 10? I love the a 10, but am slightly dissapointed about the power from my 7.2v 270mAh NICD. I'm thinking of the p51, or the zero for my next. where are the rave reviews on those in here???

besides the retracts fit perfectly into the zero and p51. The A10 would take some conversions beyond my willingness to work.

I think that the slow stick can't be beat. I have the e-starter, funny park, and the p-51 waiting to be built. Want to try the fd stick, anyone have it?

Happy flying, John Smith.

I got the pico cub fd jan 2002 and have been flying it ever since. Man, is that thing durable. The landing gear required some modifications, but I've been flying that plane with the original prop for over a year. The wing only had one little LE tear from its maiden flight altercation with a stop sign. Yesterday, I just had to fly, even though it was gusty. I finally put a new prop on, and it must have let all the good luck out. Full rudder deflection was not enough to save it from the grasp of an evil foam-hungry aspen. Down came one wing half. Out came the ladder and extendable pole. Down came the rest. 60 feet unarrested fall. No damage other than the split wing. 5-minute epoxy, and good as new, just a little uglier. This thing is great. My tiger moth breaks if I look at it wrong, but I like that one too.

Thanks Buzzbomber, you maid up my mind. I want the one that looks like the Eindecker. It should fly like the cub. Have you ever heard of the DC3 by GWS?

Happy flights, John Smith in the LA area.

I have heard of it and seen it on the 'net, but alas, have not seen it in person yet. It looks promising, though. If its anything like the rest of their planes, it will be good . If you do get the FD stick, packing tape the leading edge. Do it carefully and it will be invisible beyond 5 feet, and add enormous strength to the wing.
