Default Exceptional GWS Tiger Moth

Here's a friends very nice GWS Tiger Moth with many scale features, i.e. paint, wheels, flying wires, landing gear, etc.

Looks fantastic in the air--a real work of art.

Default Exceptional GWS Tiger Moth

I just put the finishing touches on my TM last week: dubro foam wheels, steerable tailwheel, fishing line flying wires, dummy landing gear struts, DD 280 motor conversion, and I was gonna give it the N number of my fathers stampe sv4. Sunday morning, I woke up thinking about the upcoming maiden flight and went to my workshop room to admire my handiwork. Thought is was kind of odd I heard meowing when I opened the door. I opened the door and to my horror, there was my TM lying in a twisted heap on the floor with a shattered wing and a shoebox full of junk on it Didn't even get to crash it myself! Guess I'l have to make sure the cat goes nowhere near that room in the future. As for the tiger moth, well, it doesn't look too bad after liberal application of 3-m packing tape, but your friend's ship looks much nicer.

Cheers!

Deadstk:

Whose prop did you use on your exceptional TM? Looks like an APC Slo flyer prop. If so, any problems mounting this prop on the stock TM motor shaft?

It is an APC 9x6 park flyer prop. You can make a hub adapter from plastic push-rod tubing (may take a couple of deferent sizes used together) or buy an APC prop adapter for GWS IPS motors from Maxx Products.

I have tried a bunch of different set up's with the tiger moth and have settled on this latest one. I went and got a new 10 Amp ESC and put a 11.4 V-1020 MAh Li Poly in the moth. I also made a make shift wing support by using some fishing line. I'm sure there are a ton of posts on the fishing line deal, but it works great. (and took about 10 min's to do it.) You will almost need it with the 11.1 V Battery. You will also need to go down in prop size. I'm using a 8X6. But loop after loop. (stopped at 4 in a row) and 25+ min's of flight time, this plane not only has a ton more punch, but can now keep up with my buddies Zaggy Fixx ( or Fixxed as I like to call his) It will now handle 5mph winds with easy as well. That was one of my main reason for finding more power. Can't wait for those windless days!! I do however need to think about motor's, as this will cut the life of the stock GWS motor that comes with the kit. But even if Ihad tobuy a new motor every 5 times out or so. The difference in the plane is worth it. I should also tell you I don't use the GWS glue on many of the joints either. I go with 5 min epoxy. Just wanted to pass alone some info on the old Fav....still a great plane!!
