Default Brushless "Super Cub" Thread!

Hi there!

Going with a Brushless version of the Super Cub.

It will be an "ARF" and NOT the usual "RTF" meaning it will be assembled using PARTs. I have a cousin that works at a local hobby store and he will provide me with a 15% discount for FUSE only, Wing assembly, Horizontal & Vertical Stab including the Rudder / Elevator, cowling, and main landing gear assembly.

I will populate this new "ARF" with a nice 72Mhz radio components and quality 3-wire servos.

The beauty here is that I will be using the Model Motors AXI 2814/12 and just 2-Cell, Li-POLYs!

Default RE: Brushless "Super Cub" Thread!

Well, looked in my Drawer and found two (2) Model Motors AXI 2814/12 Brushless "GOLD SERIES" Outrunner motors that I bought for two Spitfires and not yet interested in putting those together just yet as I am interested in this In-Flight Video stuff.

Here's the Model Motors Specification Page and Usual Application chart and my Guess Estimate P-Calc using just 2-Cell Li-POLYs as these motors have a rather high 1390Kv and still has almost 1.0 inch-oz./AMP of torque!

This setup may not be the most efficient in the manner that I am planning to use, however, it seems like it will provide lots of thrust and good amount of airspeed to lift any AV camera that I put on the model and most importantly using just 2-cell Li-POLYS!

I have uploaded the individual weigh-in measurements for each of the folllowing motors I have lying around.

1. Eskkay 400-XT with Brushless ESC....................... 2 1/2oz.

2. BP hobbies BL-2217-9 (Motor Only).......................2 7/8oz.

3. Model Motors AXI 2814/12 (Motor Only)................ 3 3/4oz.

The first two selections would be very hard to balance the model considering weight at the Tail should I cover my new Super Cub using the ORAFOL film Covering so, I have decided to try out the Model Motors AXI 2814/12 that delivers 1390Kv and will use nothing but 2-Cell Li-POLYs. This will give enough nose weight, especially when you account for ESC and Propeller Adapter and Propeller!

Default RE: Brushless "Super Cub" Thread!

I have all the components for a quality 72Mhz radio gear and some hardware for the Brushless Motor to provide stand-offs at the correct length and to provide correct right and down thrust so, all I have to do is pick-up the bear airframe!

I am trying to decide if I should cover my "new" ARF Super Cub with some ORAFOL Film covering "or" just leave it WHITE Foam only.

My first Super Cub that was acquired "USED" via eBay was covered with this film and I selected a perfect Cub Yellow and it looks very good.

Here's some pictures of my RTF Super Cub and most recently converted over to 72Mhz [:@]

I guess, I better decide quickly if I should use the ORAFOL Film or not!

Okay.....came back today after visiting some family South of Orlando, Florida near Disney and got several things done like acquiring:

Landing Gear: Retail $5.99 / Got it for $4.79
Cowl: Retail $2.99 / Got it for $2.39
Tail feathers Retail$11.39/ Got it for $9.59
Wing Struts Retail $ 2.49/ Got it for $1.99
Wing Assy Retail$18.99/ Got it for $15.99
--------------------------------------------
Total: Retail $41.85/ Got it for $34.75

Compare to:
http://secure.hobbyzone.com/catalog/...upercub_parts/

As you will see in the picture, they did not have a Wing Assembly in the bag so, this Hobby Shop was kind enough to give me a new Wing Assembly from a model that was hanging from their ceiling and did so while the Shop was pretty full and very busy!

They did not have a FUSE assembly without any Electronics so, I will purchase it somewhere else and get 10% off due to being an RC Club member I will purchase it in the morning and I will be complete for my Brushless conversion build. parts!

GravesRC here in Orlando, Florida came to the rescue as they had the Super Cub's FUSE and it was less than the numerous WEB Sites!!

Will be working on the new one and also, for those that are interested....GRAVESRC has two brushless Super Cubs for sale....not the normal Super Cubs but, one Low Wing and the other a Bi-Plane....

If interested please contact GravesRC at:

Default RE: Brushless

Guys,

My #2 Hobby Zone Super Cub was covered with the ORACAL PVC Film but, in WHITE.

Also, it sports the BP Hobbies A2217/9 Brushless outrunner motor mounted on a Custom made Aluminum Mount that I bought from eBay and with Castle Creations Thunderbird 36-AMP ESC.

Here are a few pictures of my #2 Hobby Zone Super Cub with Ailerons and stock dihedral.
