anyone one flown gws A-10?
have just completed kit stock . setup for hand launch no gear.
extended an antenna tube out the bottom rear as a skid. planning flight with 7 cell AAA and then if the 2 0z. of weight won't hurt perf. I'll try 6 AA . any advice? anyone? the kit was a quick builder.

iirc the battery compartment might not be tall enough for AA cells - you will also have to trim out the foam that holds a AAA pack snug. I have been flying mine on 7 and 8 cell AAA NiMh - drawing about 7A WOT. I've since decided on 8 cell AAA NiMh pack; the CG with the pack is just a tad behind the bamboo spar and has a little more power margin compared to the 7 cell pack. Hand launch and ROG is easy, and I get about 5 min flight times. I have tried 6 cell 2/3 AA Nicad Sanyo pack (270mAh!) it will ROG off cropped grass after a long run, fly for about a minute and a half before you'd have to land (the BEC cut out on me around 2min mark). fwiw one of the demo planes in the US was flying on 6 cell HE (2/3 A) packs, from the video it looks pretty good.
Couple of observations:
* remember it's a EDF, performance is different from front-mounted prop park flyers.
* it will roll, but I had to set aileron travel to 150%, and you will also have to work the elevator during the roll so it doesn't loose too much altitude. (ie, down elevator when inverted during the roll).
* loops require a slight dive
* no wind is best, around 5mph head wind is nice for loops and rolls. Have flown it in 12mph winds, gets tossed around a bit but it's flyable.
* with wind, ROG can be tricky as it will weather-vane into the wind; steering the nose doesn't really help. Been thinking of either adding rudder or (my prefered choice) use dual ESC setup and use thrust differential.
* it actually glides pretty well

a-10 c.g. ?
i just flew mine for the first time this morning and i think the c.g. is wrong on it or something because at first it wouldn't take off then after like a hundered feet it took off, went about five feet in the air then it came down and started bouncing like it was doing touch and go's really quick. the front landing gear is all bent up and a little foam scraped off the front but otherwise ok. the c.g. is where the instructions said to put it but it doesn't seem right. help me please...

phat742, what battery were u using? fwiw, ROG with 7 cell in dead calm is around 20' roll out on hard ground (it could probably take off a little earlier, but the slow speed would stall it out).

Hey guys...I heard that these little planes are way underpowered. That they don't have enough speed to do anything but keep themselves off the ground. I heard this from a guy who sells them! He told me not to waste my time or money. What do you all think? I need an honest opinion.........

Depends what you mean by underpowered; imo many EDF's can be underwhealming (esp. bigger ones like from Kyosho), but if you come to terms with the quirks of EDF's, they are pretty fun to fly. As mentioned, you can easily do rolls with the A-10, loops are just barely - the fun aspect is flying around a scale A-10 with twin EDF's whining. fwiw, check the videos of A-10 and see if you like how it flies. Has the person you talked to built and flew one yet?

Horizon HObby sugests you use a 8.4 V 730mah battery pack. Maybe it will fly longer with that. YOu could also probably use a 9.6 V battery since the air passes directly over the motor (unlike in planes where motor is in the fusalage). It should cool it and prevent overheating.

I just finished mine. I built it stock with 2 naro servos, ics300 esc, GWS 7.2 volt 600 mlah battery, gws 6 channel rx, and no gear. flew out of my hand and half a curcut later it was at alt. in fact i had to throttle back. I was doing figure 8's at just above half throttle, at full throttle it would roll. Glides very well. Remember this is a park flier so it won't do 90 mph but it is faster and more stable than my P-51 with the same setup. I'm going to buy another.

Skyhawknut,
Sounds like you have everything perfect on your set up. Some guys have problems, and some like yourself hit the nail on the head first try. My buddy who works in a hobby shop may have put the wrong batteries in his plane. In the past, he has been in a hurry and totally screwed up something....something very simple like battery pack size and weight vs. miliamp. You know.... the correct miliamp but way too heavy. Not using the correct size like a 2/3 A or 2/3AA. I guess if it were not an air worthy plane, They would not be selling it.

The A-10 looks awesome! Makes me reconsidering purchasing the plane. Sounds like the cells to use are maybe the KR 500 to 700 cells or maybe the HECELLs but they may be too hot for the speed control. The HECELLs are on this web page: http://www.edogfight.com/Catalog_pag...eriesCells.htm
I have not gotten any yet but I understand they are great. Anyway, great work Skyhawk!

I have an A-10 kit on the way to my place. It's my first electric (but far from my first plane), so I could really use a few pointers for what battery arrangement I should go with.
skyhawknut, it really sounds like you have the setup nailed, can you be more specific with the battery and flightpack you are using? A pointer directly to someone selling it would be ideal
Thanks.

Hi guys,
Built the kit as per the instructions except I left the gear off but I did install the NWS tube in case I wanted to add gear at a later date - But from the reports I've read it is pretty useless. The flightpack I used was all gws. Two naro servos, naro 6 channel rx, 6 cell 600 mah batt - also have gws 7 cell 730 nimh pack (which works very well from what I've read), and ics 300 speed control. LIMIT THE VOLTS TO 8.4 OR LESS!! or you will burn up the motors quickly. I also sanded the inlet and exhaust smooth and before I glued the nacelles together I put a piece of packing tape over the molding holes in the aft section of the nacelles as exhaust needs to be turbulant free.
