RE: Australian BBQ and Beers (All Welcome) - Part IV
hey guys,
just came back form mc's house and both of our maidens.
The twister went awesome and is plenty fast for me although batt is crappy. (hobby shop in us are getting an abusive phone call[:@]) n e ways had plenty of power and authority throughout the air but can use a bit more...will definently go 4s. the only bad thing was on the first landing (which you will see in the video) i over the landing at about 5000 kilometres per hour. nor really that much but at a steady 30k's and forgot about the sniper the enigma and my tx transport box...luckily it hit the box and all the damage was a chunk out of the wing which was soon repaired and back in flying form. she really is stable and quite quick enough and i highly recomend it for an intro into EDF. but soon i think i may have to upgrade the powerplant...because i can[>:]

Good onya Dave.
How do you like EDF flying?
I'm kinda glad you didn't tell us what happened with the Enigma maiden as it would be nice to get it from MC first. But then again the suspense has been killing me. I checked three times today and STILL NO NEWS....[:@]
C'mon MC let us know what happened.

Hiya Mick,
Wot you flying??
Hiya Mick,
Wot you flying??
Mostly scale stuff, it's my most favourite leaning. So I have a P40, Cessna 310 (the superb topflite ARF), AT6 Texan, Bearcat and a Hurricane. There's a P47 on the building board, it's a Topflite kit to be powered by a YS110FZ. An internal exhaust has been run and will exit in the scale location just before the tailwhel (which retracts). Also an old Pilot Tigermoth (Currently guarding my little boy as he sleeps), and a Hawker Tomtit. An unfinished 1/4 scale SIG Piper cub rounds the collection out.
I know there's a lot of warbirds around here, but it kind of suited the RAAF strip to fly them....
Most are ARF of the last few years because of the time demanding nature of work and family of the same period, but I do love a good kit build.
Here's a pic of my most favourite, since there's a mention of a newly finished P40 above...it's in the colours of the New Zealand Ace of WW2 Geoffrey Fisken....

Woooooh,
It looks pretty big. Noice, very noice! Not quite a park flier. Half your luck to have a good strip to use.

Debris Field, that's a stunning P40! Welcome to the thread, there's probably a lot we can learn from you with that scorecard of large scale planes. Are they all gassers? Have you done any large scale electric conversions?
I've seen one of those TopFlite Cessna 310 twins and I'd say it's easily the best looking ARF i've seen, it looks like the real deal - absolutely gorgeous.
I have to ask, where and how do you store all your birds? I have enough trouble storing my half dozen 1m wingspan planes - what's your secret?
Cheers

MC ... what's happenin buddy ?? You lost your internet connection mate???
Dave .. mate .. I expect your typing your posts on a keyboard ?? Please .. don't make us interpret your post as if you were SMS'ing us !! I truely hate SMS .. don't expect to have to deal with it on a forum.
Thanks buddy.
I think I have decided to buy the EFLITE AT6 ... Still nervous about it .. it will be .. by far the most costly plane I have .. by the time it's built up.
Think it's really worth it though ..Man it will be something else to fly a 2 KG plane ... twice the weight of my Fokker ..
Went to the hobbyman today .. almost ordered it ... but .. stuck to my guns ..
Said I would never buy another plane from there ...and never will!!!
Geoff .. are you planning to fly at PP this W/E ??
Cheers

*** happened to MC. *** happened to the maiden... WE ARE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER YOU KNOW!!!
Anyways...
Just about finished the P51. Just a few bits of decoration and she is done. I am worried though. She is suppose to weigh in at about 550gs... with an 1800 3S, she comes in at 680gs. Which from my reckoning, is going to be a bit heavy! I am about to jump on the RCG thread and see what the guys there have to say.
Cheers
-J
PS - NOICE FARKIN P40!! WOOH BABY!!

I fear the silence may be a maiden gone wrong that he doesn't feel calm enough to talk about publicly yet. Give him time...
I hope that's not the case though[]

MC doesn't have access to the 'net so no report. I tell ya', I'm tempted to send him $2 so he can go to the internet cafe and fill us in.
Ben,
I've been thinking a 10g outrunner is not gunna produce bucket loads of thrust. You are in truly in the realm of micro flyers. You will need a really light ESC, sub 5gram servos and a ws of around 30-40cms methinks. Glad you're gunna get a lighter lipo. I'd be aiming for a mini slow stick type of design and refining from there.
]Mong,
I'd be thinking a 1000 to 1300 lipo would help.
slow but steady progress on the TM, I've got the bottom wing spar and joiner sorted out. The Addiction 'donated' its carbon fibre wing tubes to the cause. My moping around with bottom lip dragging after the Addiction crash had no effect on the missus, still hasn't capitulated and told me to go get a new one. I might have to try and sneak one in - looks like it'll have to be purple again.

Maybe a bit heavy J - all depends. RV4 is actually sposed to fly at 450g, but she takes off at 550g, and you wouldn't say she has a problem. She looks beautiful though (the P51) that is.
What donk did you end up using? Maybe you could save some weight there? Also what clovus said about battery.

Am going with a scaled down version of one of these two:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=836389
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=599674
People have had success with both of these designs using the 10g.

The ESC is a problem though. I am using one that has a 3A Switched BEC due to the retracts. I could go a smaller one, but would just have to add a BEC anyway!! More reading me thinks!!

Thanks all for your nice words.
We will see how good it looks if it survives the maiden.
OZ - With a bit of luck it may be this weekend at Kambah!!

Enigma..... an action, mode of action, or thing, which cannot be satisfactorily explained; a puzzle;
Possibility he's been distracted ....I know his focus has been steady on the Enigma ....but don't forget his age ......one wrong pheronom and his brain goes to mush.
I'm guessing he didn't crash it...just not flying like it should.....which is a bigger insult to Amer than any crash[]
I think the thing to always remember is that if it went perfectly the first time, every time......you wouldn't learn a thing. Appreciating and understanding what's wrong in your design is surely where the knowledge comes from.
Besides ......it might harden the lad up a bit
Tam, glad you got the parcel......I just hope you recognised that flash drive and didn't think it a block of hash .......or a licourice block
It has a few movies on it that are in better res than you see on you-tube.
Stick a few vids on the flash drive and send it back to someone else on the barbie
Rowdy, I've got an AT-6 but mines a Wirraway ('Challenger' it apparently means) My wifes mums first husband died in a Wirraway early in WW2 and a few years later she married the guys brother who then went on to die in a Wirraway over bougainville. (Mother-in-law wasn't big on flying) While my own mum was helping build Wirraways at the CAA in melb.....(which is why I wanted one for a model) I'm not going to fly this one ...thought I'd make a project out of it with my grandson....and educate him about some wooden planes and family and aussie history.
here's a pic I found of Wirraways being built in Melb.

Andrew,
Thanks for answering that lipo question - appreciated it
I've been busy with the soldering reflow oven still... doing my own stencils now with the vinyl cutter - huzzah, finally I use it for something more than just cutting out pretty signs (and most of the time I cut my plane graphics by hand :\
Paul.
