RE: Slow stick Forum!!
On the bipe scratch build, just discovered a predicament, calculated CG should be 2.5"-3" behind LE of top wing, it's actually about 4"-4.5" now with bat and motor in, I don't want to add dead weight so off to LHS for a GWS SP400 gearbox (The one that comes on the Slow Stick) a Y harness parts to double up the bat's (2S 800mAh Lipo's in parallel for extra mAh) and four HS55's, and a reciever, should be the last of the items needed. Also found the stock wheels off my Electrostick so planning on adding LG as well, hope all that hanging on the nose will be enough to tip the CG forward. In hindsight I should have move the bottom wing forward and kept the upper/lower wing overlapped more, I guess I'll have to build another once I figure out all my mistakes...

Brushless is cool. My Slow Stick can hover at just over half-throttle and hit about 40mph+ with the wind on 3S, big motor and 9x7 prop.
Zrat, remind us again how you made the wing jig? Pics maybe?

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
TP14 - I found a clark Y pic on the foam flier thead (I'll see if I can find it again), found some demo software that let you mod the wing but not print so I just grabbed a screen shot and printed that. Added the tab on the bottom of the desired wing shape, my method only works for flat bottom wings BTW, make two of these, one for each end of wing. I just layed my paper cutout on a piece of 1/4" plywood, went over it with light coating of spray paint and then cut them out and sanded to final shape as a pair. You can cut guides with different length root/tip if you want tapered wings. I screwed the wire guides on to a 2"x6"X39 15/16" board. Cut your foam to length of desired wing span and about 1" wider than the desired widest cord length and make the center board about 1/16"(ish) shorter so the foam fits tight between the wire guide templates. The cutting bow I made is 38" cut so I went with a 36" wing, 24" might be easier to handle but I wanted 1 piece wings. I'm no expert but I got all three of these DowCor foamies out of one sheet 2"x2'x8' from Lowe's for about $18+$MEGACASH for electronics. Made lots of different servo notching/groove cutting tools also, use a 260watt "pistol" soldering iron, took the tip out and replaced with desired gauge cutting wire bent to whatever shape you want. Progress on the Bipe. I'll take pic's of the cutting tools...Zrat

TP14 - What motor are you running? I've been so busy building I haven't had a chance to try out the Watt's up on the SS yet, also swapping in a Spektrum 6200 2CH reciever on the SS, too much invested for the 6100. More pic's

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Ahhhh, now I get it... I might need to try that
My motor is a big bell-type outrunner, bigger than most of the TowerPro ones on HobbyCity that I've seen. It's supposedly drawing about 25 amps on a GWS 9x7 slow flyer prop and a 1200mah 3S. I've run it with props up to 12x5 but the ESC got real hot with that one. It has no markings/identification so all I can tell you is that it's about 3.5cm+ in diameter and maybe 2cm bell length. It came off a RTF HydroFly knockoff that was hitting about 65-70mph on a 6x3 prop and the same battery. In the instructions it said 1850kv but I'm thinking it's closer to 2000. That's all I know......

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Finished Bipe pic on the WattFlyer Scratch built foamies thread. Seem's more appropriate there, don't want to clutter up the SS thread.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
I'm the proud new owner of my first RC plane, a Supercub, I love it but I'm wanting to build a plane myself. I saw a picture on here of a SS that a was built to look like an eagle and I decided a SS is going to be my first build. My question is, can anyone tell me if they know what motor, esc , reciever, and servos I should get. I'm wanting to order from Hobbycity because the prices seem so much cheaper. I haven't decided on what transmitter to go with either. DX6i? futuba? other? Any input would be wonderful.

Dobber, what do you want to know exactly? Servos hxt-900's, esc turnigyplush 18 or greater and you want the programming card, the motor for a big prop would be a 2410-09 ,08 or 2408-21, or the emax 2812. prop adapter, all at HC. For a radio system it's up to you on what you want to spend. I have several but my favorite is the HiTec optic 6 modular system. I have a dsm2 module that allows me to fly that as well. The optic 6 and eclipse 7 are usually on sale. Toms rc .com has some of the best prices on radios out there. If you just want a plane jane 4 ch 72mg tx I can probably find you a Futaba clone for around $20. plug that other thread int your address bar some time
If you have specific questions let me know.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Tim, I don't know what you mean by plug that other thread into your address bar. I,m thinking a dx6i unless someone tells me a better way to go. I don't see myself doing any 3D stuff or getting into the larger more exspensive planes. Mainly I'd like some sort of system for the SS that could also be used as an upgrade to the supercub, one set of spare parts to keep both planes in the air. This may be asking to much, I don,t know. Thanks for your help. Explain the address bar thing.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Dobber, the B O C is not gone. I would not go with spektrum dx6i, my LHS has mentioned that spectrum is going for frequency hopping now, similar to the futaba fasst system. Which means that they will switch for a 3rd time. I mentioned this before, and will mention it again, whatever transmitter you buy make it modular. I have both an eclipse and an optic. With the computer I can fly any FM on my channel, and I have a spectra module as well, so any channel is in range and dsm2 is in range. On one radio[X(] [X(].
Dobber I started with aeroaces and ended up here. You have Cub, that probably flies very scale, so you need to be smooth and easy, and it wrecks on the ground a lot. This is all hearsay, my first planes were a slow stick and a pico stick -f. Please don't put on blinders, I wish someone had told me to just buy an optic 6, but they were relatively new. You are going to find a niche you are comfortable in. Speed, scale flight: warbirds, etc, aerobatics; pattern or 3D. I fly a mix but for me if a plane can't climb while spinning I have done something wrong.
My most expensive plane, the Lightflite Bug $150 came with everything but a radio system, and really needs a computer radio, and I am moving in on estimated 700 flights.
I guess all this is to say that you don't have to spend bunches of cash, but your decision on a radio will help or hinder you.

O.K. I found the eclipse and optic and looked at both. What do you mean by modular? Will these work with any reciever? I've got a million questions, I know.

OK , I mean modular by the Crystal being in a module. The Optici 6 and the Eclipse 7 are modular transmitters, Do you want me to take a picture of my modules?

Interesting new view. Rudy I keep my attire complete, the Pappy does seem to have issues with that. Mrs Pappy was the first to give him grief it seems.

Tim, I don't think I need a picture, I probably wouldn't know what I was looking at anyway. I'm very new to this, but I tell you I'm constantly researching something to do with this hobby now. VERY ADDICTIVE. The optic 6 is a 72 mgh transmitter? Are 72 mgh recievers still easily found? Thanks for your patience.

Try www.hobbycity.com for 72mhz receivers. They've got alll kinds of them for reasonable prices as far as I've seen.
Does anybody have any experience with their $30 2.4ghz systems? That seems shockingly cheap......

TP!4 and guys - I'm on 2.4 DX6i and long, long range AR6200 RX.....a brilliant set up and you don't feel as though you will loose the plane. I don't knowmuch about the cheapo 2.4systems, but they seem OK. The Spectrum grows with the Flyer, from the newbieall the way to the 10-plane Pro....and at only £100(in UK) its got to be a steal.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Tam, the joy of the modular radios is that you can pick and choose what to run in your TX. I use Sombra Labs rx's primarily, but the Vapor, MCX and SU-26 need DSM2. My solution was a DSM2 module for my radios. I also have a spectra module so I can cover all the 72mgz channels. I'm 95% certain that I can get surface channel modules as well.
Beave, I would be really careful on buying into random technology. I know the Kyosho 2.4 will drop out easily. And I have learned recently that apparently DSM3 is comming, a copy of the Fub Fasst freq skipping apparently. I would just read reviews for a while and let older folks with more money spendit, then you can spend yours wisely.
