Mayday; Aerobird Extreeme!
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, and probably the most important one I will ever make.
When I was driving to the field to fly my Aerobird Extreme, I was charging the battery from the car. The charger I was using cost AU$80 from the hobby shop, so I suspect it was working fine. However, when I had set up the plane, I plugged in the battery (with the controller turned off as I wanted to use Pro Mode), and then smoke started coming off the circuit board!
Then, soon after this, the servos suddenly turned and have not responded at all after this. I looked at the circuit board to see what could have happened, but I did not find much except a "slightly" black component (as seen on the pic below).
What should I do? Is it possible just to replace the component and keep flying?
Thanks for all your help!

Would almost have to see the underside of the circuit board to look for damage.
Is the part with the nut and bolt on it touching that component?
And did you plug the pack in backwards?
The servos going full travel are more then likely the result of the short. The one, I think it's a capacitor, does appear smoked, but you may have more then that wrong.

What you pointed at is a tuning coil for the 455KHz filter. This is typically low current. If that smoked, it is highly likely that other components are bad. You have two choices.
1) Got to hobbyzone.com and get a replacement fuse with RX for about $55. Get the same channel that you currently have. This way, you now have an extra fuse if you crash and mees one up.
2) Use an aftermarket radio and put in a 30 amp brushed ESC and RX. Fabricate a circuitboard out of a plain perf board from radioshack ($3). Put in micro servos by cutting holes into the circuit board and mount it
to that plastic base that mounts the current circuit board. Although this option is more expensive, it removes the problem of cheaper electronics and the servos are much more responsive.
Here is a pic of what I did.

Thanks for the reply's.
When I rang the Hobby Shop here in Australia, they thought that the silver thing was a "receiver crystal'. Can anyone tell me what is is and if I can just replace the part?
When I had a look at the bottom of the circuit board, it looked like new, there was no sign of any damage. What do you recommend I do?
