painting gws tiger moth
Hello,
For you guys painting your moth:
what paint are you using? and is there any wieght issues?
I am ordering my second tiger moth, great plane! the first one is straight stock (exept for the glue ), no mods planed for the second - keepin it simple. I have two 270 nicads and two 220 nimh. can get 12- 15 minutes indoor

Hi Hubb, Testors model paint works really well with foam. Walmart carries it in spray cans or bottles. I'd go with the spray cans because there is a lot more colors, and also the paint will go on thinner, making it lighter. (I really don't think there would be any real weight issues, just don't glob it on...)
Just a suggestion...

Ive bought mine at the local hobby shop. Horizon hobbies is your best bet for mail order. I also use the gws flight pack that includes two servos, esc, rx and battery.
the moth sells for about $55, the flight pack about $80 -85. you must buy a micro rx crystal for about $10. extra battery packs are your choice, mine were $16 - $20 each
Great, inexpensive fun. theres plenty of them flying out there.

I believe the instruction manual for my Tiger Moth mentioned something about weight per coat of paint. I don't remember the exact number but they recommended only one light coat to keep weight down. I think it was 1/2 oz. per coat of paint but don't quote me on that.
Consider adding not so pretty but very functional fishing line flying wires. Since I put mine on I have not broke the wing yet.

I used testor's twice, maybe I just got lucky, but it seemed to work really good. Also covered nicely with just a couple LIGHT coats. You would think it would attack the foam, but it worked good for me. If your not sure, try it on a piece of scrap foam.

Testors worked for me too!
Hello Mefly2
I used testors also. The tail goup didn't match very well. So I painted the whole plane. I hated the bare white under the wings.
Thanks for the tip. John
