Default Slow stick 3000mah battery?

Hi all,
I am wondering how a 5 cell sub c 3000 panasonic matched pack would work. Threads I've read are saying about 10 oz max for a battery, and 5 of these would make it. I'm assuming that the increased amperage available would hold the voltage as high as 6 AA nicads. The cell voltage looks to be higher (.04 v/cell) than zapped AA's. Anyone have feedback?

Default Slow stick 3000mah battery?

Just wondering if anyone has actually tried it. The speedo shouldn't cut out until a little under 5 volts. The sub c's should easily hold voltage above that until almost full discharge. They are cycled @ 30amp draw down to .9v/cell.

i havent tried it, i dont think it would have a high enough power/weight ratio to fly. why dont you try li-ion batteries, they have incredible capacities

FYI, The sub c's test out @ 1.16 /cell at a 30 amp load. mwhr's of 2950 to 3050. I was thinking of going to a 12 x 8 prop and seeing what it will do.

What type flying are you planning to do ?? .... your suggested bat pack/12 X 8 prop is going to produce 1 long, overloaded, boring, just going in lazy circles flight with a way overheated, burned out motor with damaged esc...... is that the results you want ?? ....... kw

Ok, lets try this again. Has anyone actually tried it? If you haven't, please don't respond.

Have not tried it but I would say 5 cells is not enough voltage. You need to go a minimum of 6 cell and 7 would be even better. But the you would be running in to weight issues. 10 ounces is a pretty heavy pack for the slowstick. I am running the same motor (EPS-300) on a couple of planes and you can tell a big diffrence in using 6 and 7 cells especially if they are nihms. The you will definantly want 7. Just my 2 cents for you.

Default Slow stick 3000mah battery?

The owner of 2nd Chance Hobbies here in S.A. (Mr.Jim Rice) told me awhile back about this one guy who WAS flying with 6 cell 3000's in his SS. Super long flights. the only bad thing he said was that due to the fact he was so heavy,he would always break something when he would land. Time to find some tall grass to land in if it was me.

I'v flow with 16 Sanyo 600mAh cell with my speed 400 set-up.
2- 8 cell packs in series. 16 cells,15 gram per cell =240 grams.
240/28=8.57 oz

3000's weight about 60 grams each. 4 cells get you 240 grams and i personally think the stock motor has more RPM than my speed 400 to handle the extra 2-60 gram cells to make it a 6 cell pack.

good luck Frank aka Nocturnal Ace

You are up to 29 oz about that is real heavy.
Take a look at the Li-Poly's 1020-1200's 3cell's and fly forever.
get a trial version of www.motocalc.com and C. CU

Give it a try... prop down to save the motor some... 11x8. I used 8 1600 mAh cells and it handled pretty well (20 oz AUW)...naturally great penetration in winds.

With 500+ sq in you can carry quite a load. You will snap the wing if you ask too much in the G dept.

Best way to find out is to just do it and get the results first hand. Then you can tell us all about it.
