Anyone using a speed 400 on a GWS Slow Stick
I am looking at using a speed 400 with a gear box on my new slow slick instead of the 280. Is anyone using this set up ? What gear ratio are you using and did you have any trouble bringing it into balance. Also looking for prop suggestions with this set up.

Why not go with GWS EPS 370, all the information your looking for is in your instruction manual, gear ratio and prop size, and it sells for under $ 15.00 inc. gear box, and the motor fits right on the aluminum boom.
BTW- the boom on the SlowStick is the week point on this great plane so do yourself a favor and get a 3/8 "x 3/8 "x 30" balsa stick, sand it down just a little on two sides and it will slide into the aluminum boom with slite pressure, it won't add any real weight but will strenghten the fuse imeasurably.

E-Bird,
Not for nothing and no disrespect intended but it's called a Slow Stick not a fast stick, or a Half-fast stick...grin...
Like the Tiger Moth and some other slow flyers the slow speed and grace that these planes fly at is what makes them fly as well as they do, the addition or more power to get them to go faster in most cases detracts from their good handling qualities, do what you want, it's your plane but if you want fast get a reno racer or one of the war birds like the P-51 or Zero.
I like fast planes also but I have more fun flying my slow flyers.

I do fly slow but I like to get up there also then fly slow
But I put 2 flat spars on the undercamber 2 lb glass made it a lot
stiffer But the referance was that no more 280's or 300 or even
a 400 they are good but I have had so much trouble with
keeping the small brushed runing they are cheap and
cheap 10 times is not I am almost less than a 400 with gearbox
and I have almost 34 hrs on the nippy the brushed would be dead
the boom is strong to me if you don't drill holes in it. CU

I stand corrected on the FAST, I have to say that I've had good luck with the small motors, I enjoy making planes out of Dow Bluecor fan fold and use mostly GWS motors, 180's, 280's, 300's and 370's, so far I haven't burned one up but I have bent a few shafts in not so gracefull landings.

The GWS EPS-300C is a 370 motor.
The GWS EPS-400C is a 380 motor... which is commonly referred to as an S400 motor.
I fly one of my Slow Sticks with the EPS-400C and a 12x6 prop. With a 10 cell KAN 1050 pack it's at least "half-fast" compared to the EPS-300C stock motor.

A cheap upgrade for the EPS 300 is the wattage 370 motor. The part # on the package is 131350. Like the GWS 370 motor, this is a Mabuchi, but with a different wind and larger wire dia. I am currently using this motor on my Slow Stick and did a back to back comparison with the stock motor. From a dead stop to 100 ft. the wattage motor was 40 % quicker with the same prop and gear drive. It draws 2 more AMP's than the GWS motor. Not bad for 10$ bucks!
