Default Does this look like enough tail to you?

Hello this is a pick of my new tower hobbies extra special. I have modified it to suit! It flies great and I was actually able to land form a harrier/ elevator! Power is a MVVS 49 with mini tuned pipe. I just thought I would share some pics. And yes you can really see the pink in the air.

Like a rabbit being chased by a wolfe! The only problem I see with the mvvs is the low needle likes to creap. I have put teflon tape around the threads to get them to hold. I hope it works. Thte motor runs great and has tons of power for the plane. I am using a 12-4 apc, but haven't tached it. The mvvs motors seem to take a little longer to break in, but once broken in they will last a long time.

Default Needle

I was proudly shown a new, improved needle valve by the Morris/MVVS man at Toledo. They are for the RC 40, 45, and 49. Check em' out and see what it's about.

Hideho all,

I'm sorry. I've been resisting this reply all day and just can't stop myself.

There's no such thing as too much tail.

Looks good to me though.

My thoughts exactly! The plane flies great. It will do a forward flip from a hover that is just outrageous. Waterfalls are real fast! Hovers great, Kife edge loop no problem. Cheap fun plane. Tower sells them for less than 50 bucks. I really like the morris kits but these are way cheaper, if you don't mind to deveiate form the plans a little. I talked to the MVVS guy at toled and he told me to take an awl to the threads of my needle valve to make the needle turn tighter. I told him he was crazy, and that I wasn't doing that. A new engine and he wants me to bugger the threads up. Yes it would probably work, but... Anyway I think I got her whipped now. Happy flying all.

I do not use high torque servos in the fun fly planes. I don't see the need. I am sure others have different opinions but.... I don't know how many degrees it will travel but it will go at least 45. I use the stock pushrods on this plane with no problems. Yes I said pushrods! I like pull pull, but I was lazy with this one. It will do a knife edge spin thats unbeleivable. I have landed it (Intentionally) from a hover. Today was a great day hardly any wind at all. Hover in front of you and it satyed there! Its just a great palne the way is set up. I don't think for the small amount these kits cost they can be beat. You can catch them on sale for 45 bucks with all the hardware. They are light too. I haven't weighed it but it feels a little lighter than the morris knife, of course its just a little smaller too.

Here is another one of those Extra Special airplanes found on another forum. Looks like it has larger surfaces too although not as large as yours.

I have been thinking that a larger rudder and elevators would be nice too on this plane. I might have too strip the covering and upgrade them too.

I also HAD an Extra Special. :stupid: Didn't modify it as much as yours though. Good thing...It might have made more pieces.

Fortunately Tower had both the ES and Mustang on sale for $44 and I couldn't make up my mind which one to buy, so I got both!

The Mustang's still in the box....thanks for the great idea!

Default How much is too much?

Doghouse Profile with Jett 60L. There's some serious pull-pull geometry going on here.

Looking Good Cabane! Thats a lot of tail! My little extra specail is still going strong. I have finally got it to do a climbing inverted flat spin! have to be real careful with the ailerons as they will break the spin. Its a fine line between climbing and doing some flopping! The MVVS 49 just keeps running better and better. Only one deadstick in about 100 or so flights. Of course I was hovering at about 10 feet when it died! Bent landing gear was the only damage. happy flying all and get some Tail!!
