Default 67" Fusion with a DLE20 onboard

Starting on my new profile...Been wanting one of these for a long time. After swearing off glow motors I didn't think it would ever happen.
Just getting going. I got all the surfaces glued in and working on getting the motor fitted. Had to cut out quite a bit and sand the rails to get the motor through. I'm not a world class modeler but I get the job done

One tip I might give you. Cut out your openings that were factory covered with a hot soldering iron. It will make a clean cut and seal the edge of the covering down.
I really looking forward to a flight report.

Subscribed.

Please post your overall weight too. A guy in our club is getting that motor soon for another profile. Should have enough power I would think. The 67" Fusion is normally a 7.5lb plane so I'm curious how light you can get her.

I gotta always have (at least) one Fusion flight ready at all times. She's my all time favorite bird.

I think 7.5lbs is pretty close to where it will end up.

The plane itself is just over 3lbs

the motor is 2lbs and the radio gear should come in around 1lb

6oz of gas and we should be pushing 8lbs, I think it will be closer to 7.5 though

I agree...I would like to build but if I get anywhere near the regular CA my head fills with mucous

Yes I use the de-scented CA but somehow I do not think it is as strong

  I'll stck with the flyin

Ok so got it done and I hit a few snags along the way. This has been some kinda satisfying. The plane and the engine have completely out done all of my expectations. This is the combo right here.
The snags were minor. Tygon and neoprene fuel tubing in a 6oz tank will need an extra large clunk in order for the clunk to stay in the fuel. You will have to somewhat butcher the engine rails and just behind the engine mount in order to accommodate the rear carb. I also carved out the mini throttle servo cut out so I could fit a standard servo. Turns out the DLE 20 is so smooth that I probably didn't need to do that.
The motor fired right up after the normal amount of flipping.
Twisted the needles and flew. I had to bring it in a few times to lean out the low end. The plane was ballistic, the motor was spinning 9700 rpm with the 16x8 JC super prop. It is foamy power. The fusion weighed in at 7.2lbs with 3oz of fuel. It's been a while since I've owned a profile, so I had to get used to the way they fly. This plane was spot on with rollers, knife edge (standard 7% up mix and a touch of adverse roll). High alpha everything was really good. I should mention that I had to put my own right thrust into the motor. It doesn't have any built into it. Looks like I hit it on the money with 4 small washers under the front to mounting holes. The CG came out to be right around 8.5" back from the leading edge. Which is right where omp says it should be. Felt good to me, that might be tail heavy for some especially as the fuel gets used up.
I'm going to order up a 18x6 and a 19x6 vess prop. I want less speed. More prop wash. The bigger props should put it right in the motors power band.
Can't wait to fly it again....Looks like some trips to the airfield after work this week will be in order.

Sorry it is actually a 6oz tank...Just had half a tank when i weighed it. On 6oz I'm flying for 12 minutes and landing with about 1/4 of a tank. So maybe a 1oz or 1.5oz left

Seems like a real winner. When i put my Saito 125 on mine it needed front end reinforcement to hold all the internals together. Folks often squirt gorilla glue in the cavities and let it foam up. Maybe yours won't need that as you say it runs smooth. The weight sounds right on.

Looks great, the wings on the Fusion look a lot thinner than the Mojo series of ARFs, how does it float at idle?

Just an outsiders view point, but I think I would move the EI wire, if you pancake it in and flatten the gear you might cut the wire.

It is a light flyer, it doesn't float like the mojo though. The fusion will actually do a snap roll, the 40 and 60 size mojo would not. The ign wire will get cleaned up a bit. I pulled a all nighter getting it ready to fly yesterday. So at some point i said good enough

i like those thinner wings i have the mojo 60 also and from the vid i see on OMP that planes looks to do clean imac stuff along with 3d. I suppose the mojo could be best as a 3d trainer.

The airfoil shape on the Fusion is way different than most profiles. The CG is closer to the aile LE than it is the wing LE.

using a single 1100mah A123 with 2 leads, one for the rx and one for the ignition. I can get 3 flights and then a mandatory recharge. It only takes 10 minutes to recharge though...Looking back, I was really concerned with weight and knowing what i know now....I would have went with a single 2300mah.
