Funtana/Magic Extra/Rossi 45
I currently have a Rossi 45 and am wondering if anyone has tried this motor on the Funtana or Magic Extra? I want a plane that will do 3D and this is the motor I want to use. It is very powerful compared to an O.S.46FX and the like. I like the looks of the Funtana a lot. What do you guys think?

The Funtana I have weighs 5 lbs 14 oz. Don't know if the rossi will give you the power that you are looking for one this plane. I have a OS 70 with a apc 14x4w and could us more. Not very happy about the weight of the Funtana. Don't see how they could say 4lbs to 5 lbs. on the box. Haven't heard on any under 5 1/2 lbs and have heard of sereval going over 6lbs.
Have seen a Extra Magic fly and it looks good for the price.

Rossi 45's not a torquey motor. Not real good with big props and it's heavy. An OS 46 FX will spin a 12.25x3.75 higher than the Rossi. It won't 3D well on anything over 4 1/2 pounds.

Thats a Magic-3D isn't it?
I saw a Funtana with an OS-46FX that flew ok not 3D capable at all though-
The Rossi will liven it up a bit tho...
A 61FX would be probably work well for a 2 cy. I would go YS or Saito-91+ on 4 cy.
Beautiful plane that Funtana

Thanks for the advice guys. My rossi 45 spins an APC 12.25x3.75 higher than my OS46FX. I get 900 more RPM out of the Rossi which is why I am asking what you guys think.

My Rossi will outrev any of my OS46FXs as well, with any prop... What rpms are you seeing? That'd give us some indication of how much thrust you have. I've got a Topcap ARF with a MVVS 49 which spins an APC 12x4 15,000 rpm, about 1,000 rpm more than my Rossi 45. In spite of the plane being pretty heavy (it came out 5lbs even), the MVVS rockets the plane out of a hover.
I'm guessing with a 6lb plane, 3D performance with my MVVS would still be OK, but pull out of a hover would probably lack the authority it has now. And if I was using my Rossi 45 (which is a little less powerful and a little heavier than my MVVS), I'd expect 3D performance would be marginal.
It seems like you've already got the engine, and you're shopping for a model. You really like the looks of the Funtana, but it's probably too heavy of an airframe for your engine. Do yourself a favor and pass on the airplane or equip it with an adequate powerplant (I hear people are having good luck with the Saito 91/100 in this model). It'll keep you from being disappointed in it's performance.

f2racer..........My rossi 45 turns a 12.25x3.75 at 14400. How heavy of a plane can I get that will still have good vertical out of the hover. Thanks........[sm=thumbup.gif]

My Topcap ARF is right around 5lbs even. If you're getting 14400 with a 12.25x3.75, you're looking at tremendous pull out (of a stationary hover) for anything 5lbs or lighter, decent pull out for anything up to 5.25lbs, slow pull out for anything up to 5.5lbs, and little to no power for pull out for anything greater than 5.75lbs.
When learning to hover, it's actually more important to prop your plane for smooth transition. My MVVS performs the best with a 12x4, transition with a 12.25x3.75 was a little bit too abrupt when it came on the pipe...

RE: Funtana/Magic Extra/Rossi 45
f2racer.......Thanks for the info, it is very helpful. Right now I am practicing hovering with my SPA3D (spad). I've been using a Thunder Tiger Pro 46 and it has good to excellent pull out from stationary hover. Prop is a 12.25x3.75 but I will give a 12x4 a try and see what happens. I also have a Bolly 11.5x5 I can try as well. The SPA3D weighs 4 pounds 7 oz. What ever I buy for the Rossi 45 will be 5 pounds or less.
