RE: Guess wich plane this is and who designed it.....
Its a Hovering Cobra, designed by Quique Somenzini, kitted by Bolly. Designed in 1994, kit was produced in Austraila. It did not have conventional landing gear, however had a single main wheel and wires on the wingtips to stablize it on the ground. When Bolly sold there kit division to a company in New Zeland, the new company decided not to produce the HC anymore.
The plane was considered a failure due to most of them crashed becasue the tail broke off in flight.
Do I will the plane now. I will pay the shipping.

Do a search in this forum and you'll find some more info on the cobra. I loved to hover mine but due to fuse failure I had to stop flying it. It was funny and got a lot of laughs out of it. If you had a lot of wind or you sped it up on acciedent the thing looked like a fish swimming up stream with the tail going back and forth. I've heard of control surface flutter but FUSE FLUTTER. I still got the plans and wing and might consider building one with a fiberglas boom. that would fix the problem for me....best hovering airplane I ever flew. You could launch it right into a hover.... good luck..

nice, but, why did the builder round off the trailing edges of the surfaces?- it can provoke flutter!
given that it flutters already, why would you want to induce it more!!!!!
nice scheme. we have one in our club, the owner flies it too fast and wonders why it shakes :/

Well, does anybody have the measurments on this thing or the plans? I would be willing to bet some of the resident scratch builders on here could make a kit out of it that would stay together. Perhaps a CF rod or two through the fues.

Guys, rattle YNOT's cage. Last March I found a NIB kit and hooked up a flyer in Houston. I was under the impression he wasn't going to build that kit, but use it to scratch kits from. YNOT says he talks to the guy pretty often, might be able to work out a deal on templates, copies of plans, something. I don't think the kit is current production, so I don't know about copyright infringement, etc.

I did a mod on the fuse.
an arrow shaft "ladder type" assy. inbedded between the ply doublers.
upposeing rungs like the stab assy.
goes from about 3/4 back on the wing to a bit more than half the moment of the tail
surface gaps are all taped
itll take full throttle .46FX passes no sweat
My only dig with this airframe is that its too complex for what it is
It needs to be simplified............. alot
in my humble opinion [&o]

What about the deal contempo was doing or was this the guy YNOT was dealing with. Read this thread.

The guy I told about the kit was Kyle, HanginRoundR or something like that..he and Tony fly together. I had forgotten about Contempo and his plans..that would probably be an easier route.
Do you still have the plans/templates to yours??

ChuckAuger:
You know now that you mention I remember getting an email from hanginround a long time ago saying name my price for my cobra kit before I built it. Yes I do have the plans (somewhere in my plans pile-at least I'm pretty sure I do)
I think the secret to the cobra was nothing special other than LARGE rudder and elevator with a LONG tail moment. I believe this airplane could be easily duplicated by just giving the rib template plus dimensions. AND I would use Paul Swanny's method of the fiberglas boom thing like a minus or menace is done. That would solve the problem of "fish dancing" as it's been phrased (cool name)
I had a pro 46 swinging a 11 x 4 APC at the time and it was ridiculously overpowered.
I would toss the single wheel thing, not very practical, had to hand launch almost every time. No biggy but got tired of the wing tip wires poking holes in my other airplanes during transport. The wing had a shaped aileron that could be just made flat too.
Here are the before and after the "fish dancing" that caused problems.. Did I mention it not only broke in the end but I kept having to reglue the horz stab back to the fuse and I was using tailbrace wires too.
The cobra reborn to what looks like a magic proved to have to big a rudder, so it was cut down alot. It now sits sadly in the closet with no engine and no radio waiting to go to the Perry flea market come March 2004 along with the other items I stash all year long and sell at once. It just didn't fly the same as it did before as a Hovering Cobra.....

What is the best shape to reduce flutter for the trailing edge of control surfaces?

I have CAD files for laser cutting the Hovering Cobra. I am not in the kit bussiness. I can copy plans, provide CAD files, and tell you who I had cut the parts for me. The trick is finding someone who can cut 48" stock. Most lasers only handle up to 24" pieces. Bob Holman cut a couple of short kits for me. Parts fit is excellent!
