RE: Morris Hobbies Top Cap
The Top Cap is a BAD airplane! It performs so well you think you're a better pilot than you really are!
It is so well designed it does everything easily, and well!
It needs two things... build the wing in one piece, not two. This makes for a stronger centersection. And add some internal bracing inside on the bottom that bridges the area at the trailing edge, where the fuselage tends to break. Some spruce a couple inches either side of where the wing cutout is works well.
The tank in the wing also works well.
Overall a delightful airplane!
OS 46FX, APC 12.25x3.25 prop.

That was the combination I was running. 50sx with a 12x4 apc.
Sweet flyin' plane, the mishap that snapped my fuse in two was my own fault, as usual.
Floating in , kinda hovering with the winds help, 8 feet off the deck, wind quit, no time to recover, you know the rest!

I just now found one of these morris hobbies top cap kits hidden away under other models in my local hobby shop. The second I pulled it out to look at it, one of the guys behind the counter called out, I sell it to you for half price. So I bought it for $50 bucks + tax. I told some of the guys at the feild I bought it and they are all putting it down and saying that was one of the bad design kits that morris hobbies put out. I dont know what to make of that statement until I actually build mine but does anyone else on RCU feal this way? A couple of us including me have all built the morris hobbies jerrys little boy and big boy and they are both fantastic flying planes but for some reason the guys at my feild dont seem to like the top cap.

Top cap got a bad name on its ARF's because they came in heavy. Build it light, replace wood if you have to and keep it as close to 4lbs as possible RTF. If you can do that they are excellent performers.

i wouldnt have thought to go that big. did you keep the same size gas tank (i think it is a 6 ounce tank) or did you go bigger. I have a saito 56, saito 72, and an OS 70 four stroke in my collection that I can choose from.

I can fly for 10min. on a 6oz. tank with my .82's. Most of my flying is done at 1/4-1/2 throttle. I like the fact that I can save some weight (and space) with the smaller tank. It only takes about 30 sec. to refuel the tank anyhow. I can do either a harrier or hover to landing, shut off, refuel and one flip of the prop and I am back in the air in less than 90 seconds......I will stick with the 6oz. tank on my Profile birds
