RE: OMP Yak Picture
mnrcaerobat,
It took about a month once I got stared on it. I've had the kit since fall but had other projects in front of it. You will not find a better flying profile to build, all the laser parts fit perfect and the blue foan fuse. is very simple to build. I used Gorrilla glue on the fuse sheeting but would use epoxy next time.
Jim, you are too kind! It does fly pretty sweet though, best profile I've flown.
OS ran good and has plenty of power. Have you ordered your next one yet?
Knowing you youl have it done in a week!!

Rob please tell us what you did to get it down under 7 pounds. I'm running a Saito which is roughly 6 ounces lighter then the OS and I'm coming in at 7.6 with all the weight I had to add up front to get the CG right.
I started off with just a prop, prop nut and a 750 nimh but had to add several more ounces to the front by replacing the 750 with a 1650 and a tru turn spinner.
Without the prop and nuts it still came in at 6.12.
Please tell me what you did.
Thanks Blackie

RE: OMP Yak Picture
Dont worry about 7.5 lbs, peoples scales vary and I can tell you I built mine light, It weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and flies like a dream, almost too light, I think thats why the harrier suffers, It is hard to keep the wing from flying. Another thread suggested a more forward CG helped the harrier, You may have the combo just right, Fly and enjoy. The saito 100 should be great on a 7.5 pound plane.

RE: OMP Yak Picture
Actually a nose heavy plane will tend to want to keep flying and not harrier. If you have problems in harrier mode with any plane, try moving the cg back. Otherwise instability in harrier mode is due to vertical fin blanking and there isn't much to do about that unless you add a vertical fin below the fuselage. This of course isn't a problem with most profile designs as they have amply fuselage surface area for yaw stability.

RE: OMP Yak Picture
Hi Smallfry and Blackie!
Let me start out with my Yak is flying sweet and I hope yours are too! As far as my weight ( Yak's) my scale does not vary and I just re-weighed my bird, weights are as follows:
Left wing which includes, 650 MAH 4.8 battery and switch harness and Futaba 3004 servo and 4-40 hardware. 19.80 OZ. ( I use a Y to connect my battery to the servo so just one plug)
Right wing same servo and a Hobbico "volt watch" 16.08 OZ
Fuse which includes, OS .91, stock muffler no baffle, Zinger 16X5 wood prop
Great Planes 12 OZ. tank, Futaba 133 on throttle, 3004 on rudder, 9201 on elevator Futaba 127 reciever, 3" foam wheels, Du bro tail wheel bracket and 1" wheel 70.64 OZ.
Total weight is 106.52 OZ. or 6 lbs 10.52 OZ.
As far as what I did to build light it was really nothing special, I live in the " Mile High City" and we learn to build pretty tidey up here. Engine is mounted well forward in mount and my battery is in the leading edge of the wing and balance is fine with no extra weight. I replaced leading edge sheeting with some really light stuff, used glue spairingly on the fuse, sand a bunch and use Monocote. All hardware is 4-40. Even with the cheapie (light) servos on ailerons and rudder I have plenty of authority. Sorry to be so long winded!!
