Ed,

I've built mine with an old Webra Speed .28 I've had since '87 with one of the new Mac's Mufflers on it, JR 610 micro receiver, HS-85's for throttle and ailerons, HS 225MGs for rudder and elevator. Swapped in a Dubro 4 oz tank and put the battery pack under it. Removed the servo tray (1 oz), installed rails forward so the Elev and Rud servos could be mounted forward of their stock positions.

It weighs 3lb 8oz. and I'm hoping will really "float" well and be a good funfly machine.

BTW, the very brief building manual says the CG should be at 4" from the leading edge of the wing.

I'm still waiting on the 225MG's. As soon as I get it done, I'll post a flight report.

I am planning on moving the battery, anyway, but go ahead and let me have your CG. I normally fly with mine pretty far back, but I have only flown the Heckler 1 weekend so I haven't had a chance to play with it. I normally like it just where it doesn't oscillate. I have flown planes with the CG way back, but you have to keep your eyes on them every second or they'll do something crazy.

It doesn't need much engine so I was thinking about borrowing someone's LA .46 or a .32, both of which would knock 3-4 ounces off the nose. I guess I need to cut and try on this one, then get a second and do it the way I like it from the get-go. It is a good flying plane or I wouldn't be messing with it.

Hi again,

I made a quick trip to the hobby store and bought the Sullivan rods. I was using some unknown brand cable that kept kinking. The Sullivan's were the answer, they are way smoother and flex with ease thanks to thier smaller diameter. Thank you for that little note!

I weighed my setup and my weight without fuel is 4lbs 2 oz. I am using the Hitec 5245 digitals all around except for throttle which is Tower Hobbies T-10 (similar to a HS-80). Both the elevator and rudder servos are in the back and doing a pull-pull on the rudder. The battery is a 2 cell Kokam 1500 lipo with a 6v regulator. Thanks for all your help, I hope to maiden her this weekend.

Hey, looks like OMP is now carrying these too. They even give free shipping and a free wing bag. Too cool. Looks like my next bird. Good enough for OMP good enough for me!

Here's shots of mine. Saito 40, Hitec 422's + HS 81, my gear, carbon fiber pushrods and total dry weight of 3 lb.s 11 oz.s.
The mounting holes for the engine mount were rotated 90 degrees from the side mount so I put it in upright and stuck the throttle servo on top. Thought I might have a fuel draw problem, but so far- so good!

Hey guys,
Just wanted to respond to John's thread regarding the next shipment of the Hecklers. We have never intended to do another round of these planes. Once they are gone, they're gone! So get um while their hot (not a sales pitch) I am also glad to see that most of the feedback has been positive on the Heckler. We worked hard to get these here.

Whaa! Don't tell me that! [:@] So if I crash this one beyond repair, I won't be able to get another? If you guys sold them all, wouldn't that mean you made some money? So why would you not do another production run? Please help me understand.

Dave,

I bought mine from Horizon. Tower has them too. I'll probably order another to keep on the shelf.

We still have lots of them. It's just when they all sell, no more will be ordered.

Yup, I was selling. Just a reminder...just because the elevator and stab are hinged, does NOT mean they are glued... One of the people who purchased a Heckler a the fly-in assumed that the elevator hinges were pre-glued and proceeded to fly it. Suffice it to say it didn't go too well.

Saito 40 with an APC 11 X 3 prop seems to work pretty well. Just now got it in the air!

I flew mine at the Memphis Pro-Bro this weekend and I was very impressed. I put a Webra .28 on it and changed some things around to make it even lighter. It came in at 3.5 lbs and hovers at just over half throttle.

It's going to be a killer fun-fly bird!
