Default profile or not to profile that is the question?

Hi Im looking to get into 3d and have begun to look at omp, met them at toledo and they seemed really nice and informative but i flew the 80" on the sim and it was fairly hard , I have been flying for a year now , should I go for it or should I fly something else. sparky

It's funny that you asked that right now. I just poted these words seconds ago:

On the other hand. (Gordo gets ready to have stones thrown at him) If you said "I want to learn 3D" I would never even think of the SE. I tried for 2 years, hard. The first day I flew my first profile I was 100 times better than I ever was with my SE. The lighter weight, much larger control surfaces, greater side area, and much tougher designs make for far better 3D machines in the smaller planes IMO. (Gordo ducks quick) I have only one fat fuse left and that's because I can't sell it (Anybody want a GP Spacewalker cheap? $25 with motor!)

I got my first profile about a year ago, and here I am!

That's my opinion. You won't find a plane EASIER to fly than a fat plank winged profile such as a Burrito or Knife. And the Burrito is bullet proof and FAST building too. Keep the throws low at first and anbyone who can fly a trainer can easily fly these models.

I like my woman plump, and my planes flat.

If you reduce the throws, most of my profiles have been very relaxing planes to fly. especially my Great Planes Gee Bee.

My EF Edge is my first profile...always thought they'd be super touchy, boy was i wrong. Turn the throws down and it flys better than a trainer. easy to build too...

I agree, if you have been flying for a year, you will fly a profile and wonder what took you so long to get one.

Yep, that's my story. I don't even look at the adds for the fatties anymore, and my old buddies at the field think I'm stuck-up because I don'e compliment their fatties.

I spent over 10 years with giant scale. Profiles have made it fun again!

Sparky,

Despite the rhetoric and "quotes" from Shakespeare, a .46 sized profile is ounce for ounce one of the best flying types of airplanes on the planet. Toned down, they are like any Stick, and probably land slower. With 3D controls you can equal the performance of just about anything there is for much lower cost. If you can handle a Stick or a 4*, I say, "Go for it."

Minimum structure = maximum performance. Performance = fun. Since going profile I've had more grins per flight than anything else. Your mileage may vary...

I think the Burrito would be a good place to start.
