Default Precision Aerobatics Bad Boy

Has anyone flown the PA Bad Boy yet?

I ordered one last Tuesday and expect it to arrive by Tuesday, or Wednesday next week. The people at PA were great at answering my questions and confirming my order. I guess the instructions were left out of the first run of kits and before they shipped the plane, they confirmed that I was cool with recieving it w/o them. They said it was an easy build and If I needed any help, just send an e-mail.
When the plane arrives, I will document the build all the way through the maiden and that way, anyone else who buys one will have the updated info to build without instructions.
I am excited about this plane, as it looks like a radical departure from the current crop of FFs out there. only time will tell....

Well, the price is right, and it does look good. What do you see that's " looks like a radical departure from the current crop of FFs out there"? Just curious. What was shipping from Australia? Be sure to let us know how you like it and how it flies, could be the next EF Edge!

"Radical Departure" was going way overboard...........sorry

Plug in wings and slightly larger size............"Slight Departure"

The shipping is the only bummer it's $25-$50 depending on how fast you want it. I wanted mine ASAP. Looks like I finally get to be the first kid on the plock to have a new plane.

What color do you all think the PRO-BRO on the bottom should be?

Dude, I didn't mean that badly. I missed the plug in wings and that IS a radical difference!!!

If you like the quality, that might be a great candidate for a Saito .91. I'm planning on acquiring a couple more of those motors.

Seems the ProBro should be blue. And Trans blue would be cool considering the rest of the plane. Do you think it will be a problem with orientation? Pretty hard to tell the top from the bottm. But that would be an easy fix.

I think it will have orientation issues for sure. I have some flourescent yellow Monocote and the backing is white. I was thinking that might work well. I am going to run my YS .63 in it. I am trying to get the days off to go to cooksville and if I can swing it, I'll have it with me.

Default Precision Aerobatics Bad Boy

Well, it arrived yesterday and last night, I got about 1/2 the assembly complete. It is verry straight forward and the lack of instructions did'nt slow me down. As with any other ARF, each component came individually bagged and the contents were sepirated by cardboard dividers. The covering was drum tight and required so re-shrinking. This thing is light, as you can see in the pictures there are alot of lighteneng holes and cut-outs to save weight. There are a few key things that really aid in fast assembly on the plane and I have not seen them in an ARF before. 1. All of the holes for the control horns were pre-drilled, so installing the horns was a three minute job. 2. on the stabs, the covering was already removed in the gluing areas making that job go quickly as well. 3. There are notches in the LG for the wheel collars. 4. The fuel tank was assembled with the fuel lines attached, but it is only 100ML (about 3-4 oz) so I wo'nt be useing it. That's about it I wanted to do a detailed build, but there is nothing really complicated about the build. Here are some pictures of the plane and my progress. I will finish it tonight and post again tomorrow.

Is that one rib broken or is it just me? Guess it shouldn't provide a problem. Nice looking plane though!

Good eyes Spacey........

It is broke, but the peice is attached. I just need to figure out how to get glue in there. I e-mailed PA and they said it should be ok, but I can hold the wing at the right angle and get the peice to flap over into place. I am going to attach a peice of antenna tube to my thin ca and fish it down in there.

How much did you pay with shipping? Were the hinges pre-slotted?

I really wouldn't worry about it. It is already triangulated (How do you spell that? ) between the cap strip. That little piece in there wouldn't help much for strength.

edit: sorry spelling sucks today.

Dion........ The hinges were pre-slotted and the hole for the tail wheel wire was drilled. They sell the kit for $149 and shipping runs $25-$50. This was a fathers day preasant from the wife and kids so they had it rushed. It took only 6 days including the weekend to arrive. Total cost was $199. I was informed they are working on a US distributor, could it be you Dion?

The plane is beautifully built and the only complaint besised the puny fuel tank is hardware. Some of the control horn screws were too short and I was missing the ca hinges for the ailerons. These are so minor that they are hardly worth mentioning and should'nt deter anyone from buying the plane.

The linkages are threaded and have HD clevices on them and are made out of MW instead of the soft stuff.

I've been talking with them. They want a pretty large commit. I'll leave the decision up to your flight report!

Looks good. Silly fuel tank. Both the EF ARFs (Mini and Edge) are the same way. I put the Edge's tank in the Mini and a 12 oz tank on the Edge. I said in annother post that those guys over in China who are building these things must not like to fly long.....

Keep your eyes open guys. I'll be having a review of this bird here @ RCU soon. They are in a 2nd production run with some updates to the design.

Hi Guys
Consider the fuel tank issue done!!

From next batch it will be replaced with a slightly bigger one. the reason I will go for slightly bigger is because of the weight. I preffer having 7 minuets of full fun than flying 10+ minuets with too much nose heavy, specially with a short plane.

William great job on your Bad Boy!! very nice photos.
The only thing that concern me is the engine that you intend to use, it is a bit too big. I'm a freak of over power but not of over weight, you see?

The Bad Boy was designed to fly with .40 - .46 engines, but because of it's lightweight construction it will fly good even with a good .32 engine. The Bad Boy we flown has .46 engine and it has UNLIMITED vertical performance.

So what I would say is, as long as the intended engine is lightweight as .40 size it will be OK.

Anyway William use the YS and tell me how it was. You can always change to smaller if needed.

We will upload a video in our website soon using a .46 engine (and not even OS)

Have a good flying weekend William
