RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
ORIGINAL: EXTREME FLIGHT
You guys who are having trouble with vibration on your 4 strokes, have you tried adjusting your valves. Get a set of feeler guages from your local auto parts store and check them according to the recommended tolerances in the manual. Properly adjusted valves along with a balanced prop should eliminate most all vibration from these motors.

I still haven't decided yet. Decisions, decisions! It's between the Saito and Webra. I have my EF Edge waiting.[]

RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
I have got about 20 tanks of fuel through my Saito 72 and my Morris Topcap. I always adjust and set the valves before I break it in. At least with the 2 saitos I owned because they provide all the support equipment including a feeler gauge.
As for balancing props, I am extremely lazy and never do. Waste of time to me because of all the different variables.
Needless to say the Saito 72 has enough power to take off vertical and hover at roughly 1/2 throttle (I have a linear throttle). Then from there shoot on up at a good speed. No vibration at all. Even the Hitec HS 55 sub micro servo sitting hardmounted to the fuse doesnt even buzz or have any trouble.
I think you will be happy with any of the motors, just got to try one. Oh, Irvine 53 is a killer two stroke.[8D]

For any one interested in the ST G51. On my TT Fun Tiger, it hovers no problem at 1/2 throttle and a little above. The Fun Tiger is heavy at 5.25lbs. Plus I was a little under propped. All I had was a 11x4. The poor ST only got one vote.

Go with the Webra 50GT. Smooth, powerful, and light. Mine is on a Topcap and couldn't be happier. Fully unlimited vertical!! This motor just wants to run. A 12x4 APC gives quick throttle response and great pulling power. Also love the sound.

I fly the webra 50 on my advanced rcm trainer 40 and it never fails to impress
somebody at the field. Thing flys more like a pattern ship than a trainer.
You won't regret getting one.
I have also just finished my EF Edge 540 and after all the talk of vibration
problems I elected to go with the Rossi 53 and a Morris hobbies short pipe.
Waiting on my Snoopy Graphics to show up and I will be good to go.
Ill throw up a post after I try it out and let you know how this combo works out.

Tim Hudson

RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
Just a thought,
I used to run 50 sx's on all my profiles, had a ball with them.
When I bought 2 new CG ARF's, the 330 and the 540, I also picked up 2 new Saito 72's.
I had a vibration problem, at first, then balanced the props, 13/4 apc, everything is great.
I'll not go with another setup on any of my 40 size profiles. In my opinion there is not another combo better for my application. Of course, if they would have come out with the 82's early enough, I probably would have bought them just for grins.
Just my .02,
Kenny

RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
I have a Saito .72 on mine, an OS .70 Ultimate 4 stroke would
be another option also. What prop is everyone using for the
4 strokes? I have tried a MA Scimitar 13 X 6 and an APC 14 X 4W
and did not like the results! I ordered a 13 X 5 Pro Zinger from
the Evil Empire "Tower" and should be here Tuesday? I let you guys know.
APC does not make a 13 X 5 prop?????????[>:]

I am using the 13x4W APC on both my 72's. This prop pulls my 330 and 540 around no problem. Both my planes came in just under 5 lbs.

RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
I have 2 72 gk's, one on the ultimate and one on the profile corsair. good runners, and I had always preferred 4-strokes on my hover stuff. but on my latest omp I tried supertigre 45; really cheap right now, so what the heck. used to run the heck outa them, but got away from them about 1999 as the carbs got screwy. LOVE the omp/ supertigre combo. runs great, plenty power, a "softer" power than my 72's, which are kinda raw power. you will probably love the 72; my favorite prop on them for hovering is the m.a.s. 13-6 scimitar nylon, for several reasons, but mainly it flies like I want it to with that prop. use 11-5 apc on the s.t./omp. tried 12.25x3.25, but at 4 lb. it hovered too low on the stick, and less airflow over the controls made the elevator and rudder sluggish for my tastes.
same thing with small pitch on 4-strokes. the 72 has plenty of grunt to swing the 13-6, good control authority, and great pullout. with less, the engine spooled up good, but it actually had less pull. at least on my stuff.
if you can make it to cookeville, say hi! I'll be the guy with the pink ultimate and some unusual profiles!

Would a West 50 go ok on the EF Edge? I have one sitting around that needs to go flying. I'm really serious about getting one of these and I'l be putting 3010 all round. Sound ok?

RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
The West 50 should have all the power you would ever need. Before I went to Saito 72's on my profiles, I ran OS 50 sx's on everything, with a 12x4 APC prop. They flew great!
Make sure you keep an eye on your throttle stick, that West is supposed to be a rocket, high speed + large control surfaces = flutter = damn I wish I hadn't done that
Have fun.

Go with the saito 72 I have a 46AX on mine, it hovers easily, but not enough juice in an emergency pull out (found out this weekend, and wached my EF edge drop 10ft from a hover this weekend) Luckily only broke a prop, and a rudder horn, but it did make a nice loud crunch when it hit!!!

yea, I use 72's on both of my profiles, but you have to remember that West 50 is not the normal 50 of any brand. I agree, I wouldn't use anything but my Saito 72's on any of my profiles.

i have a 46fx and hovers just above half throttle! but needs alittle more power, i think if money isnt a issue go with the saito .72 but if your on a budget and what to save alittle fuel get the os 50, or a liitle more get the webra 50 i have a engine from each manufactor listed above and all have ran flawlessly i seen a few poeple have a mvvs with the stock mini tuned pipe and seem pretty kick ass! i think the mvvs .49 sell for around 160

RE: Which engine should I use for my EF Edge 540?
I'm finally getting this thing together. I ran into a small problem with my .72. I reversed the carb so that the needle valve is on top. Then when I went to reverse the throttle arm, my ball driver broke off inside. ANy suggestions on how to get it out. I was thinking of cutting a slot in it and then using a small screw driver. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Craig
Never Mind. I got it out. I used a center punch to jar it loose.
