Carbon fiber gear and glow fuel?
I have the Graphtec RC carbon gear set for my Morris Topcap profile and notice the Saito 72 (Notorious for being sloppy rich) has dumped fuel on the landing gear. Particularly its just me when I am filling it up. I have another set for my h9 edge and no problems and I dont have any problems with this one. But will the glow fuel weaken the landing gear? Also, do any of you guys use Fender washers or washers for the bolts holding the landing gear? I am going to use them as I know they will help spread the load on the gear much better.

RE: Carbon fiber gear and flow fuel?
i try and use some kind of washer also, even though i broke my morris cf gear at the bend not at the bolt..
the fuel will not wreck the gear, they use epoxy as the matrix on the gear, it will be fine

RE: Carbon fiber gear and glow fuel?
There had been some isolated incidents of delamination in exhaust areas with the fiber-lite gear, but these have been proven to be heat related. The HDT (heat deflection temperature) of the epoxy we had used in earlier production runs was over 180 degrees. If exhaust, especially from a four stroke engine, was directed at the gear and the HDT was exceeded, the epoxy would possibly break down. The newer epoxies we are currently using have a much higher HDT after the elevated temperature post-curing cycles we now use.
The epoxies we had used in the past and are currently using are highly chemical resistant. Even the cheapest 'off-the-shelf' epoxies do not seem to be affected by glow fuel.
Polyester and Vinyl ester resins may break down when exposed to nitro, but you will not find these more 'cost effective' resins in fiber-lite gear.
Plus ca change plus c'est la meme chose.

Hey Tom, Scole is a good Kid, dont be so hard on him!
the unfortunate thing about the INTERNET is that it is too easy for a good company to get a bad rep from a few misinformed people, not saying that scole is misinformed, he is just repeating what he heard.
I'm glad that you fixed the problem.
Now, if i were to need a new set of gear for my 40 size profile where can i get them?

Hey Dave hows it going man! Are you still flying the 3.0M Composite-ARF Extra? I am in process of getting myself the 2.6M Composite-ARF Yak and getting ready for IMAC[8D]. Once I get that and my vehicle I will definately be hanging out with you and Josh in your trailor flipping throught papers frantically trying to remember something[8D].
You should come down to Fresno sometime and bring Josh and have some fun.
Chuck, you old man, my Topcap is still in MINT condition with only 26 flights so far. My Thunderpower battery DID fail on me. One of the cells puffed, but I was on vacation for 2 weeks. Funny thing is it only took me 30 seconds to take the battery out of the hatch without removing the pull pull wires or servos from the hatch to get into the leading edge.
