The best is soybeans. The corn stalks will go right through the wing, but beans are much softer. It's amaizing how confident you get when you have a 2 1/2 foot thick soft cushion to fall into.

I guess I didn't look for holes in the covering after I got done with that flight. I've deadsticked my somethin' extra in the corn before, there were a few holes

RE: Hovering in the corn
Here is my buddy hovering in the corn. He was going well into it. That's an OMP 80" Edge with BME 50. Lots of pullout if it got stuck. It's a video still so quality is not that great.

Cool belly shot.... Did he make it out okay? Was there any chaff caught on the elevator?
What's that big edge weigh Dion? I flew Mike's big edge up in Derby City and I absolutely loved it.... I watch Jeff wrestle his to the ground from a hover 3 or 4 times.... Really stable bird.

He's got it a hair under 11 Lbs. Owner is Steve Kissel.
Just about every GS Edge in the St. Louis area, there are a bunch, all have BME 50's. They hover just couple clicks over idle. I'm the only one with the little MVVS 2.15 and that's even overpowered.

RE: Hovering in the corn
I've flown one with a BME 44 too. Not noticeably different at all. There is so much power with both these engines you never really have to explore the high end. They both scream straight up when the time comes.
I'd figure that that the BME 50 is an over-bored BME 44? Prolly same casing and weight???
He came out of the corn just fine. Steve is the kind of pilot that's going to keep going in deeper as the corn gets higher. The corn is right on the edge of his home field so I expect him to drop it all the way in eventually.
I've been torqin' mine right on the deck. Last 5 times I've brought my big Edge home the rudders either been pulled off or broken. I've got layers upon layers of very thin robart hinges in each hole. Even broke it again yesterday.
