Default My Mojo 60 build thread

OK, I've never done this before, but I'm going to give it a shot! Please bear with me, as I have a lot going on right now. I probably won't finish this in a day or two!

I had the pleasure of recieving one of the first 6 Mojo 60 kits from Paul Swany. I had a 40 size Mojo already on the building table, so I had to finish it before I could start the 60. I finally got to open the box a couple of nights ago to check it out.

Everything was packaged just like I'm used to getting from Paul. All of the pre-cut stuff was taped together nice and neat, and all of the sticks were rubberbanded together. The plans were rolled nice and neat, and the landing gear was rolled in newspaper. Everything seemed to be in order, so I laid the plans out and got ready to get started!

The first thing to do is to glue the engine mount halves together. Then you glue the CF rod into this assembly.

The next step is to build the spars. Since this is a quad tapered wing, the spar has to be built so that it can fit the taper of the wing. Paul has the correct angle laid out on the plans, so all that you have to do is cut both halves of the spar at the correct angle and glue them together over the plans. This will give you the correct taper. (The spars are 5/16 square balsa, by the way) The next thing that I did was to glue a piece of 1/4" carbon strip centered on the joint, then capped it off with a piece of 1/8" x 5/16" basswood doubler.

The next step is the center rib assembly. You start by gluing the balsa half ribs to one of the two center ribs. Lay the engine pod and CF tube assembly onto the rib to use for alignment. Then you glue the other center rib onto the top of it. BE SURE NOT TO GLUE ANYTHING TO THE ENGINE MOUNT AT THIS TIME! The I glued the leading edge half ribs to the outside of this assembly.

The next step was to get ready to build the wing. Paul suggests that you pin 1/4" material along the inside edge of where each rib will be. This way you can pin the rib to the 1/4" material to keep it from moving.

That's going to be it for now. I won't be able to work on this for a couple of days, but I'll get back on it. We'll have a Mojo flying in no time!

Yeah, Capthis, I hear ya! I'm going to hit it hot and heavy next week. My son is getting married tomorrow, so I'll have a little more time to work on it after that.

By the way Capthis, how is that Katana flying these days?

Great Job Harold,

Just got back from getting to fly the 60 size. Paul was kind enough to share her with me. EVERYTHING was rock solid! You're gonna love this plane. Keep up the good work, and congrats to your son. Is this the Devil Dog? Full Dress Blues I'm sure.

My MOJO majically appeared at my doorstep while out flying this afternoon with my brother. Thank God my wife was in the shower when the post-man showed up. Cuz he just put it on the front steps. I was able to fetch the mail before she did. I didn't even think it would come today. How fast. Well, now I have a plane to build and a ST75 coming also. Alright. I'm in business now.

Yeah Bandito, this was the Devil Dog and he was in dress blues! Oooorah! It was a real nice wedding. Now that it's over, maybe I can get a little building done!

Hey Cap, that looks good, whatever it is! Is it a Hybrid? I'm a little slower than you are, but I 'll do the best that I can!

I've done a little work today, but haven't taken any pictures. I'll post them later. I've got the wing framed up and almost ready to flip over. I added the top spar, then laid the ribs onto that. Then I added the top spar, the sub spars, leading edge and trailing edge, leading edge sheeting, and the servo spars. Now I'm ready to flip it over and start on the other side.

I might start my build tomorrow. I "should" finish covering my CG Sukhoi, BUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. The Mojo 60 is looking like it might take presedence over the sukhoi.

Here's a picture of the wing with the cap strips installed. The ribs are cap stripped from the leading edge to the trailing edge, and the main spar is capped between the cap strips. The center section has also been sheeted. Here the wing is ready to be unpinned and turned over.

2 Mojo 60 kits going at the same time.....

Here you go, got the kits Friday the 28th, Started building Saturday afternoon after cleaning up from the Ice Storm we had in Georgia. Cranked up the Propane Heater and started working. All is done except part of 1 wing (3/4 complete) and I still need to frame up the other. And I even wendt flying on Sunday too..

Heh heh...Keep up the good work RazorBack..looks good.

Also, did you notice if your plans were close in size to the cut parts in the kit? I guess my plans are still very new (expansion and contraction) Because everything is off by about a 1/2 inch...(cut parts that is from what the plans show)

Hey Wagas! I haven't gotten to the fuse yet, so I'm not sure if the drawings are off or not. Im hoping to get to the fuse tonight or tomorrow night (maybe!). I'll be sure and check the sizing.

This is not a big deal but it was amazing how much it thru everything off. I couldn't decide on what to use as a reference when laying my parts down. At first I used the nose but that didn't work, then I tried using the vert stab post that didn't work. So I ended up using the line where the Spar meets the back of the Ply Mount for a reference. This worked but I still had to play with the rudder layout and a lot of other things like the horz stab, elevator and ailerons. Like I said all the parts I have that are CNC routed pieces are smaller than what's on the plans. You know I haven't measured but When I get home tonight I will measure the wing on the plans with what it is suppos to be and see if there is a difference. But so far the ribs Match everything that is laid out on the plans. This is confusing. In reality you really don't need the plans to build this thing anyway for the most part...[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

I'll take a look at the next batch of parts and see what's off.... If you build around the tube and the wing saddle you should be okay...
