RE: Mojo 40 Yes or Other????
Well I picked up a ST G-51 with two test starts on it for real cheap. I'll be able to buy the kit within a week or two, followed by a cheap basic radio. Can't wait to show these older members at the club how I like to fly haha

Personally I think you'd be much better off with a TT46, Webra 50, OS46/55 etc.
Sometimes cheap motors cost a lot more than you think. I've lost two planes this year to engines that failed to deliver the power instantly when called on to do so (SK50 and ASP52).
When it comes to 3D total engine reliability and snappy response is a very important factor.

I have three Mojo 40's on the table right now. Actually there are three of us building them together. One will have a 55ax, one a Webra 55 and the third will have a Aviastar .53 (very affordable @ $69). I will report back on their performance.
Paul,
Thanks for the great service. I will say though that sometimes the instructions, more so the pictures, where a challenge to follow. The second and third build, I think I could do blindfolded. Great quality kits.

Glad you liked the kits... Thanks for the feedback on the pictures. I've got most of those pictures online that might be easier to see. http://swanyshouse.com/mojo/construction.aspx

We talked about some folks using a skip instead of a tailwheel. I was going this route but it looks like the rudder would always be dragging unless I glue a ~1" piece of wood under the fuse and then the skid to that. Could you tell me how others are installing a skid? I am thinking tailwheel now.

I've used both... I prefer the tail wheel. Just make sure it's a nice low profile type like the Dubro... Some of the taller versions screw up your angle of attack. But if you use a skid, just bend it at an angle that will keep the rudder off the ground. Most of your time will be spent over the runway not on it...

The only thing to watch with wire tailskids is that if you fly off tarmac, they wear to a needle-sharp point in no time and can inflict painful puncture wounds. Don't ask how I know this.

We got 2 of 3 flying and they are a blast. The Webra 55 is sweet with a xoar 12-4. I tried it with a 13-4 but the motor seemed to be loaded to much and would start getting hot after a few minutes into the flight. It wll pul out of my hand at 1/3 throttle.
Next was the Aviastar .53. It seems have near the same performance as the Webra at a much lower cost. It also likes the 12-4 xoar. The stock carb was changed out with a Super Tiger 45. Stock carb had not so good transition. With the ST carb it is very good.
The third still like some covering. It will have the 55ax. Maybe soon.
The mojo is a must have if you like 3d or want to learn.

The Webra on the scales is 1 oz lighter than the Aviastar including the mufflers. The only advantage is price but at ~1/2 the cost the Aviastar become very attractive.

The Mojo 40 is an excellent aircraft. It's quite strong and even I with my aging reflexes can manage decent 3D flying with it. I have built two of them and they are easy to build with decent wood quality. You will find everything you ever wanted to know about the Mojo if you Google for "mojo for dummies". Make sure you include the " characters in your search expression.
