Default PST 600R Battery Question

In the manual it states to use a 7.2v Nicad battery for the ECU but I've read of some guys using lipo. This has the TEMS ecu. Can you safely run a lipo on this?? Also are you guys running an external propane for start or the tank in the model? Which is better? Pros or cons? Can I use the colsman butan or is there a better option?
