Default Need 2.4 radio input

Hello,
I am going to buy a new Futaba 2.4 radio and I was wondering which one should I go with. I was looking at the 7ch but I heard the 8ch has a better reciever. Please any informed input would be appreciated. Also what do installations look like and batteries guys are running. If it matters, it will be going in a Lyle Proud Bird 2

Thanks Ed

Either would be fine. I've used both TX's, and currently use the 8FG. I wouldn't use the receiver as the decision maker. I've used both receievers with my 8FG transmitter and really can't tell the difference in the faster response of the 6008HS that comes with the 8FG. Decide which transmitter fits your needs and wants better and use that as your decision maker. You can then buy whichever additional receivers you want. The 617FS is really hard to beat for racing.

Hi Gary,
Thank you very much, is there anything special as far as batteries go? When I last raced years ago, I used 350 MAH nicads. Now I am reading guy you lips, with regulators and such. Is that all needed? I still find the old nicads hard to beat, but I am always willing to learn.

Thanks
Ed

Like Dave Norman said in the other thread you started, four or five cell NiMh's would be fine. I used 4 cell 720's (and sometimes smaller, 350mah or so) for several years, only recently going to lipos with regulators. The biggest reason I changed was the ability to charge the weekend before a race and not having to worry about it all race weekend. Just one less thing to deal with when going to a contest.

I'd still worry about it

I did the first couple of contests, and still check them each morning, but I've never had them get even close to needing charged. It's just nice not having to deal with charging before test flying or during the contest.
