Excited to be getting a new Proud Bird from Lyle and a Jett 40 LS from Dub, and trying to make the Phoenix race.
Been thinking about this for some time and decided to try it.

I'm also planning to make it in February.

The Phoenix QM40 Classic is a great time and great weather.

I hope to see you there.

Just showed up today

Looks great Marty!!! The q40 race in Pheonix is one of the best ones in the country. Winterfest is a great race as well. I am headed there on the 20th for some Q500 fun!! You ought to come down for that one and practice up for the Q40 race!!

I thought about it, but have to choose the races this year. Too many happening and not enough time. Plus I dont have a competetive plane or engine. But that is something for next years plan. The Phoenix group and Jim do a great job and I want to experience it for sure.

Here are a couple thoughts for things to do before the race:

1) Install the tank, typically a Jett CG or Tettra 6, about 1/2" to 1" higher than a normal sport model. The reason is to help during the launch and during turns.

2) Break in the engine with several tanks of fuel. I add about 4 ounces of castor oil to an existing gallon of fuel. Follow the break in directions.

3) Have Darrol Cady review the model when you get there. He does the safety inspection and is good for picking up any installation issues.

We will be there early, probably Wednesday, so that I can get some flights in.

Yep, Tank as High as can be.
Engine to be broke in per Dubbs instructions with extra oil

Here is my back up. It will also be for sale if it is not needed
Only 2 colors with more striping and numbers needed.

I am sure you already know as you have lots of racing experience but as I was told back in the old F1 days, Nobody ever set a record with a lean engine. Keep it on the conservative side.

I agree, and I just want to be consistant up and down for the weekend and let what happens, happen. Too many world class racers there with years of experience for me to do anything but "Have Fun". Im certain the competitive juices will flow. It will be a blast.

Went out and got 4 flights on the new Proud Bird today. Flew awesome. I wouldve stayed out and got more but I ran out of fuel. I am starting to get it trimmed and when more fuel arrives I will go out again and fine tune it. This lil bugger is fast!!

I just thought I needed to say something here: I loved my New Proud Bird so much I ordered another from Lyle and less than a week it is shipping with color. What kind of awesome service is that? Then I get a call my new Nelson LS is on its way. I have been in in some racing environments and always say it is the people that keeps me hooked. These Q40 guys are quickly becoming impressive to me as a "great bunch".
I cant wait til get the back up (maybe primary) in the air. Now if this Utah cold will let up for another day of testing it will be great. I am looking for a place in No Utah to fly with Gary S. If anyone reading this post has a place please let me know. Thx!!

Lyle will be greatly missed the day he stops his Pylon efforts. Everyone says the same thing, about his quick delivery times of finished planes. Throw him in the Hall of Fame right next to Gary Schmidt..

BTW don't be afraid to try Lyle's Vendetta.. it's just as good...!!

just heard that from another racer as well. We will see what next year brings, maybe a vendetta who knows. To top it off , on top of racing planes, he likes to snow mobile and ride motor cycles. Cant get much better than that. 3 of my favorite hobbies!!
