The tray was cut to fit the servos and holes were drilled for the servo screws.

The tray was test fit to verify the servos don't hit the fuselage and there was the desired clearance for the aileron torque rods.

Jordon Peace stopped by this morning and we sheeted a couple wings.

I began by weighing each sheet of balsa and sorting from them from lightest to heaviest.

I prefer to use heaver balsa sheets on the top of the wing. The bottom of the wing will have the lighter wood.

A template was made for the wing sheeting by placing large "T" pins around the wing shucks. Place the pins about 1/4" wider (both front and back) than the shucks. They should also be about 1/4" longer than the shucks.

Sheeting is positioned on the top and bottom of the template. A third piece is added and trimmed to fit the center section. The cut off from the third piece is used to fill the remaining space. These are cut and taped together to make a skin.

The opposite side is made similarly but the tape is applied to the other side of the skin.

Some landing gear supports/wing spars were made from 1/8" thick light ply.

These were cut about 12 1/2" by 1 3/4" and slid into the wing. The spars were trimmed to fit.

The wing sheeting was taped together to make a balsa "book" that folds at the trailing edge.

The carbon fiber strips were planned out that the landing gear does not interfere with the strips.

I test run the vacuum pump prior to mixing the finishing epoxy. Take the time to confirm that it works before going further.

A piece of 1.6 ounce fiberglass cloth was laid over the balsa sheeting.

Approximately 1 ounce of finishing epoxy was mixed for each side of the wing. A cap of 91% alcohol is added to each batch of finishing epoxy. This thins it out and makes the epoxy easier to spread.

A plastic squeegee was used to spread out the finishing epoxy.

The wing core was installed between the wing sheeting.

I test fit and pin the sheeting in place on the core.

The cores are fit between the shucks and are held together with masking tape.

The wing is placed on a 4 mil thick tarp that is used to make a vacuum bag.

A vacuum tube and piece of rope are taped in place on the bag.

A long piece of paper towel is laid on top of the wing.

A bead of latex caulking is used to make the seal for the bag. The bag is folded over to join surfaces and the caulking makes the seal.

The pump is turned on and empties the air from the bag.

It was relatively cold in my garage so an electric blanket was placed over the surfaces to insure the epoxy was warm enough to dry.

A razor saw was used to trim the trailing edge flush with the shucks.

The leading edge was trimmed until the edge was flush with the cores.

A sanding block was used to true up the edges.

The leading edge (1/4" thick balsa) was attached with Gorilla Glue.

The surface was dampened with a moist paper towel initially. A thin bead of glue was applied and the leading edge was taped in place.

Gorilla Glue foams to fill gaps. There was a little too much foam so it was removed before it dried.

I've positioned the landing gear so that the axel is about 5/8" forward of the center of gravity.

The bottom sheeting was cut to fit the landing gear blocks.

A Dremel was used to grind out foam and wood for the installation of the landing gear blocks.

Finishing epoxy and micro balloons were mixed and dabbed in place.

The blocks were added and the gear was taped flush.

They were set out of the way to dry.

Default Build an Ashley MM

A hole saw was used to remove material for dowel inserts.

A piece of tape covers the hole to keep the glue in.

The dowel is marked to length and trimmed with a Jigsaw.

Some micro balloons and finishing epoxy were mixed.

The mix was added into the holes and the dowels were added.

Parts were set out of the way to dry.
