RE: I have to ask????
The CC is the same in both engines, but they are set up for different applications.
The Q500 motor is timed to run between 19-20,000 RPMs on a 8 3/4" x 9 pitch prop. The Q500 engine has a barrel carb that lets you shut the motor down in flight.
The Q40 engine is timed to run between 23-24,000 RPMs on a 7 1/2" x 8 pitch prop. The Q40 has a Venturi rather than a barrel carb, and you will need some other form of pinch to shut the motor off in flight.

Hi Croc end
Nelson Q500 has 165 degree exhaust time Q40 has 192 in both cases these measurment's are with no liner shims. Both engines are side exhaust.
If you are allowed engine mod's in Aussie, the Nelson Q40 fitted with the older FAI crankshaft and a 12.5 mm venturi is a good option. Set 196 deck height and 18 thou head for FAI fuel.

RE: I have to ask????
Now we are starting to talk.Re side exhaust Great to hear about being the same, timeing I was thinking would be the issue, but why does My ST Q500 like APC 7.4 x 8 it is power on short but a APC 8.75 x 8.25 it will not rev as some say and pull like mad on the short Ultra pipe but will
only pull on a longer Ultra pipe. The long pipe won't work with 7.4x 8. Another instance I bought a ST .45 last week and on long pipe with 10.5 x 6 Bolly LOOK OUT sport pylon or standard or what ever.
Any way thank's so far TEAM
