Ray, I threw a DX-7 in one of my 424 planes. tested it at markham it flew great, however I did get a glitch in the NE corner of the field once. Im changing the rest over to DX-7 before mullberry.

DX7...a glitch? I would say that's not possible, I'll double check with the Horizon team.. but I believe it works the same as PCM. If you had some sort of radio interference, it would go into "fail safe", and the throttle would shut down. Maybe that's what it did, but I hear "glitch".... ???

I flew my new GR7 this last Friday with my DX7, all is good. Plane fly's good...

Thanks Gary,

Which airplane does this Q40 - (Reno Racer) come From.

Calls my attention the shape of the wings with no straight lines in the Leading and Trailing edges.

Best Regards.

As the Kaze Killer, it did little. Keith Davidson built the F1 model and gave it that name. He also knew Grove and tried to get him to rename the full sized airplane. You have never seen a model finished unless you saw one of Keith's airplanes.

GR-7 was designed by Robbie Grove of San Diego. Bummer's Bullet was the name given to it by owner Jim Bumford.

I'm not sure how many full-size GR-7's were built, but I know of at least two. One crashed, killing the pilot, and the other's listed here....

Cool airplanes, too bad we have the 56" wingspan limit for Q40, as a "scale" planform wing with 400 square inches would be about 64" long!

The formula 1 model Kaze Killer was designed and built by Jerry Small. He sold kits of it. The model deisgn also won the world championship in F3D.

Note, the full-scale airplane was never called the Kaze Killer. Jerry Small called the model a "Kaze Killer" because he hoped it would beat the pants off Gary Hover's "Kaze" design ( a/k/a "Kazi" ), which looked basically like a Little Toni with a glider wing on it and was really cleaning up in F1 in the early 1990s. I'm not sure a Kaze Killer ever really killed a Kaze, but it scared Gary Hover so much he hid out in a cheap hotel in Gallup, NM for the entire 1993 racing season.

Huh?

The price of the GR-7, considering the amount of prefab, is very reasonable for Q40.

I have one on order, and look forward to flying it.

The GR7 flew excellent for me in Phx. The only thing that kept me from breaking a minute, was the prop issue and being forced to try and run the 7.8... You all can call Shadel and ask how fast that thing was on Thursday with the 7.6 on it..

$575 is a very fair price for a plane like this. It is professionally painted in the mold, comes with plug in wings and tail feathers. A good value in my opinion. Considering the other costs of traveling to events, that is pretty reasonable to me, probably not everyone.

Just as a comparison, I've purchased several painted Q40's (1 proud bird and 2 vendettas) in similar stages of completion from Lyle for $700-$750 each.

Ask somone what they have invested in helicopter, turbine, or 40% IMAC plane.

Our planes are relatively inexpensive in regards to other disciplines in the hobby.

Definately not for everyone, but one of the cheapest forms of racing out there.

Plain and Simple, racing anything can be VERY expensive.
