Phoenix Classic 2007 pics & results
Hi everyone.
Allow me to share some pics from Phoenix Classic 2007.
There was a new Q40 record stablished by Matias Salar with 59.24 seconds. (New Nelson Q40 + Larson´s Vendetta)
The winner of the contest was Gino del Ponte achieving 28 points (in 7 hits) (Airplane: Proud Bird)
Second Place Travis Flynn with 27 points (Airplane: Polecat)
Third Place Lyle Larson (Airplane: Proud Bird)
Regards.

For those of you who could not make it........ Just some observations
* There were nearly 80 entrants from 9 countries and 20 states.
* It ran quite smoothly in spite of the difficutlies and delays surrounding the motor/prop issue
* A new National Record was set (Congrats to Mati and Scott!). By the way... Did you know that Matias was on the second flag? (Can you say 0.5 second quicker?) - Lyle's Vendetta/new Nelson motor
* Gino DelPonte went through the whole weekend without dropping a single point against all of the top flyers in the country! Huge Congrats to this terrific young man. Truly an amazing feat!
* There were 5 guys who were perfect on Saturday - Boy, Sunday is tough on the guys at the top. Only Gino stayed clean through Sunday.
* The top ten finishers flew (I think) 4 different airplanes (Larsen Proud Bird / Bruce Polecat / Lyle / Rusty Ashley / Jim Allen Proud Bird / Bruce Polecat / Bruce Polecat / Bruce's GR-7 / and two of Lyle's Vendettas) and all used the new Nelson. - Someone correct me if this is wrong.
* The weather was great Sat and Sun (Friday was very windy).
* Jim, Randy and the Speedworld Team put on another great event. We were well-fed, the announcing was terrific, and the course workers did an outstanding job all weekend.
If you missed it , you missed out. Put it on your calendar for next year.

Even if you can't tell who's airplanes they are, I like the shot of the four planes around 1, with the lights below....very cool!

Oddy. These are GREAT pics. One of those around turn 2 (or 3) is Matias' airplane. I wonder if it was taken during the "Record Run"? I'll bet Mati would pay a lot of money for a nice copy of that... . Anyway, thank you for sharing you pictures.

Arch,
It's a Polecat with an extended rudder. The folks from Mexico do this because of the thin air in Mexico city. I think. Elevation about 7500 feet above sea level.
