Just completed flight #2 on the AR-6.. The only change I made was moving the CG back 3/8".. That seems to be about perfect but I will probably push it back a little further and see what the range is.. Other than the aileron trim there is now no other trim in the plane. Easily could have put it on the poles on this flight.

That Endeavor looks beautiful!
We have one in the USRA and it is just an awesome looking and flying plane.

Lee, I was born and raised in Wi, and will be there in June after a GS race in Ks. Where is your town, and is ther a place to fly these Q40's close to where you are?

I will be heading to a town called Milton, just north of Janesville and sounth of Madison off HWY 26.
I may bring a lil Q40 to fly as they are so easy to pack away.

Amusingly enough, if the USRA AR-6 that you have in mind is the 42% one designed by Ed Rankin, then I got the Mike Arnold 3-view that I used as a starting point for my Q-40 version from him. Ed is a retired preliminary design engineer at GD/Lockheed and he and I were in the same group when I worked there. I am currently teaching Ed how to use a computer/CAD program to design airplanes since he (83 yrs old) is strictly a sliderule and drafting table guy. He is actually getting pretty good at it.

Small world, isn't it? I also have a print of his 42% hand drawings of his AR-6. It's MUCH closer to scale than a Q-40 is.

Thanks, it's been a long road and I've still got a little after-glow from the flights this weekend.

As far as a place to fly these, about any paved township road with no traffic.. I'm sure the AMA will be all over that..

If you're in Janesville, It's only a short 5.5 hour drive to my neck of the woods on the north western side of the state.. Nothing but cow pies and corn fields.. My wife has relatives in the Janesville area, that's why I know pretty much to the minute how long it takes to get home

Township Roads? The way I remember those where I grew up is they were lined with trees covering half the road.

Ill look at it when I get closer to the date.
Thx

So, now that the testing is complete, and I've confirmed with Jim Allen that I am good to go, I have started on the parting board for the wing. I also completed fuse #2 this weekend.. My plan is to have a fleet (ok, at least 3) at the Nats this summer.. I have 2 weeks before my next class starts and my hope is to have the wing molded in that time.

If anyone is interested I'll start a new thread on the wing molding process.
