Bend a loop in some .040 music wire that your fuel line will slide through

Insert the fuel line through the loop and set servo up to pull the line into the tube this takes very little pressure and is much better for the servo than pinching the fuel line against the firewall. Another plus to this system as Dub Jett pointed out to me you will never start an airplane with the radio off again because you have to turn on the radio to push the fuel line out of the tube. I know that would have saved at least one of my airplanes

Why do you need the aluminum tube. couldn't you just use the hole in the firewall??

Pylon Dave,

That is a good question but after doing it once it appears that you need the 3/4" to 1" length of tube to effectively pull the wire loop and fuel line into. My firewall is only 3/8" thick.

Well I got the motor in and fuel lines run,

I found these neat little fuel filters at Central Hobbies They unscrew for cleaning and have a little O ring to seal but I cut a piece of large fuel tube and slipped over to double up on air leak prevention.

I really like the way this shutoff works! Thanks Gary!!! you are good for something!

Boy it sure is quiet here in Q40 and Q500 land, I think I am going to have to go Warbird racing those guys sound like they have FUN!

Anyway here are some pics of the three airplanes almost finished. The blue one is being delivered today and I am going to finish radio install on mine and Shadels today and next weekend. If you want I will continue on the radio install, If not I wont.

I would like to see how you hook it all up, and what you use for push rods! I am also curious about your rudder set-up. Is it a pull-pull type or are you using a single rod??

Love your work Dave, you do a super job on them!

That's some beautiful work!

I may have to try the engine cut off also. I've always used the traditional pinch the tubing against the firewall and the tubing method appears better.

Keep up with the pictures. I enjoy them immensely! [8D]

Well a little more on radio install

First I think I picked up this little trick from one of sahartmans build threads. To figure out how wide to make servo tray take two scrap pieces of balsa and span them across the fuse and put a drop of CA pull it out and you have an exact measurement of the width. Do that at both ends of where your servo tray will be and transfer the measurements to your 1/8" plywood.

Cut out your servo tray.

I glue in some balsa blocks for the servo tray to sit on I use thin CA to glue them to side of fuse.

Next,

Install servos and switch in tray.

Glue tray in. I use some slow dry epoxy and put a couple pieces of carbon tow at the fuse to tray joint.

Before I glue the tray in I mark all of the wires so I know where to plug it all in. I also like to tie all the wires up and put them under the servos because they are about three times to long.

Well we made it through the weekend and brought some airplanes home alive, A great time was had by all!

The airplanes flew great and we ended up with fast time for the weekend at a 59 and change (Gary Schmidt can make anything go fast) Fred Burgdorf had it on the radar gun at 191!!!

I know I kind of left you all out on this thread but I will get caught up as soon as I get a little rest.

Dave E.
