Nelson Q40 SS prop?
 

Hey Guys,

I've been using the APC 7.4x7.5 on my Miss Ashley while I got used to tuning it. Now I'm ready to move up to a race prop. Which prop would you recommend for the Nelson Q40 SS? I've read that the second version of the 7.4x8 loaded some motors down too much. Was this resolved with another version? I live at 300' ASL and we have good air almost all the time.

Chris,

I ran an SS this past weekend with the 7.8 and it did pretty well.. If your engine won't turn that there is also a 7.6 and 7.7..

Chris, it all depends on the type of day you're having up there,,, thick air-thin prop,,, thin air-thick prop. It all boils down to test-practice-test-practice-test,,, and more test-practice,,, so on and so on. With all the different props that are available its a good thing to have a few in the box for those different types of Race/practice day conditions. Go with 7.8 or 8.0

The other alternative,,, Wood Props:D

IF you are able to, carving out a wood prop can be very rewarding and its a whole different animal [sm=shades_smile.gif]

OK, so there isn't one prop that's THE ONE anymore. Good!

I've got 4 more of the 7.5s left. After those are gone I'll buy a couple each of the 7.8 and 8.0.

I went through the entire Q-40 forum today back to front. Learned a few things about the history of the props etc.

Chris, just keep trying, it will vary by day. Even the props with the same size on them will vary between themselves. Many of the pylon guys will check each prop on a pitch gauge and mark them accordingly. They all vary a bit.

I liked the 7.8's and 8.0's on the SS motors, although on some days the 7.6 works well also.
