Default 7th Annual Mulberry Southern 500 Race

OK guys, we have a GO for our 7th annual Southern 500 quickie race! The dates will be the third weekend in March (18-20). Poles up practice all day Friday March 18, with racing starting at 9AM Saturday and Sunday. We will be running SEMPRA 424 (same as AMA, except 17,000 max. rpm limit) and AMA 426 BOTH days this year (no Q40's). I will get a flier out as soon as I can, but at least now you know the dates and can make your plans to attend!

Thanks, more to come...

Here is the flier for the event. I posted a .PDF which you can download, as well as a .JPG of it as well. We will be providing Rich's Brew fuel for the event, but you will need to bring your own practice fuel. I will get a block of rooms and the rates published in the next day or so.

Thanks,

guys, our main hotel will be the Holiday Inn South in Lakeland. This is the same hotel we used for the FAI Team Trials that everyone liked so much. There is night life, any type of restaurants and shopping in close proximity, and is only 15 minutes or so from the field. Free wireless, Olympic sized pool, heated whirlpool, gym, etc... The room rate I got is $72.00 per night double occupancy with twin queen sized beds. Mention you are in town for the Southern 500 Pylon Race for the reduced rate. I reserved 10 for now, but if we fill those, I may be able to get a few more.

Here is an info sheet and contact information for the hotel.

And a Merry Christmas to everyone too!

Scott I tried to book my room at the Holiday Inn, but no one knew anthing about it. I finally got in topuch with a person named Noemi and she blocked out 10 rooms at the $72.00 rate for us. She said when people call to ask for her. Dick

Sorry about that! Carl is the manager, and who I made the deal with. Naomi is his assistant, so I guess she would be the one to ask for. Thanks Dick.

So, ask for Naomi and mention the Southern 500 pylon race for the special room rate!

Looks like you me and Randy Etken will be racing our butts off! Come on guys, I need to get the fuel set up, so I need to know who will be coming. Right now my course workers out number the participants 6:1, and the 3 of us will split 16 plaques.

We need to support local racing, or it won't be here for long.

One week to go till race-day! The expected turnout looks to be good, with quite a few guys confirming; Some regulars as well as some guys coming back after some time off.

Just remember the time changes this weekend, so the sun will be out later for the races. We also have the lunar perigee (super moon, with it is the closest to the earth it has been in 18 years and it is full!) thing going on Saturday, so all you guys can use it as an excuse, or a reason to excel! (great time to do your first 426 race...)

Friday test flying with poles up all day long, just be sure to bring some fuel to burn. Fuel will be provided for the RACE ONLY. We will have some fuel available for purchase once Rocket Ray gets here, if needed. We will do some registration and inspections in the afternoon to try and ease the Saturday morning rush for those who are there.

Saturday we will continue registration till 9:00am, pilots meeting and lane assignments shortly after and first heat @ 9:30am. We will run 5 heats each day, with plaques for 424 standard and 426. (Expert pilots in 424 do not get plaques, just NMPRA points)

Sunday will be a repeat of Saturday.

Weather is predicted to be in the low 80's [link=http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/tenday/33860]Southern 500 Weather Forcast[/link] so come out and lets get racing!

Thanks to all the pilots for coming out, and to our club members for allowing us to monopolize a weekend to satisfy our need for speed! Here are the results:

Also, the scores say 428? Did you race that or 426?

Their program only listed 428, but we flew 426. Good race and free pizza Sunday.
Dave something went wrong with your TT 40 engine, can I return for refund?
