Default Quick Question Viper 500

I have a .28 magnum lying around, I was using it for a prototype scratch build that failed hard. I would like to get into a fast flying plane. If I have never flown a quickie but am a very good pilot, would putting the .28 on the viper be fast at all. I guess I am looking for suggestions for my .28 and radio equiptment. Thanks guys.

A Quickie with the .28 on it would probably be in the 80-90 mph range, 95 tops. But you would get the feel for a Quickie for when you move up to a .40 and start racing.

Some groups use .25 to .28 engines in a class of racing commonly called Slow Quickie.

The Viper has a universal backplate that will work with almost any engine in the .25 to .46 range.

With a .28, you can use servos that are smaller than the standard size servos. This will make the plane lighter, and you will get more speed, or at least more acceleration to top speed.

What kind of speeds will the Viper do with a O.S. .46FX or an Irvine .46??

The speed of the airplane is determined (In basic terms) by the pitch of the prop and the RPM, not by the engine being used.

We get speeds in the 120 mph range with the O.S. .46fx. Rpms around 15,500 with a 8.5 pitch prop.

Dave,

One thing that has confused me is that people often refer to 424 with TT Pro .40's as being in the 120 mph range.

The .46's have almost 0.4 more hp ... So is true 424 really slower than 120 mph?
