Default Lone Star Shootout, Q-500, Nov 19-20

On November 19-20[SUP]th[/SUP], the Ft Worth Thunderbirds RC Club will host the Lone Star Shootout, a Quickie 500 pylon race for AMA events 424 (Sport Quickie) and 426 (Super Sport Quickie). It is believed that this will be the first 3-pole, AMA-event pylon race in Texas in many years. We expect to have several nationally-ranked racers attend.

This will be a 2-day, 4-event race with each day as a separate race. Entry fee will be $25 per event, per day and will include lunch.

Pylons should be up by noon-ish on Friday. There will be a limited amount of practice fuel available. Due to AMA set-back requirements, launching will be from 4’x8’ plywood ramps, landing will be on the concrete or grass runway.

Race fuel will be provided and must be used. (Ritch’s Brew NMPRA Race Fuel)

The “Judgeman” race timing system will be used. We expect to fly 6 round of each class, per day, but will adjust this based on the time available and number of contestants.

Lodging: There are numerous national chain hotels in Burleson, TX at the intersection of I-35W and FM 1187. FM 1187 is the road that provides access to the flying field. Distance from Burleson to the field is approximately 13 miles. There are also numerous restaurants in Burleson. Additionally lodging and restaurants can be found in Benbrook, TX near the intersection of I-20 and US 377. That distance is also approximately 13 miles.

Registration: We request that you register in advance to allow us to get a head start on the matrix construction. If you plan to attend please reply on here and I will start a list (name, AMA number, events, team mate). If you have any question you can contact the CD: Gary James at gsjames at earthlink.net ph817-689-3778

See attached flier for more information.

**RULES DEVIATION** - IN THE EVENT A PILOT RECEIVES A LIGHT AND A CUT AT THE SAME TIME AT PYLON 1, THE CUT WILL STAND AND A REFLY WILL NOT BE GIVEN

The sign ups are finally starting to filter in. Let's get those pre-registrations in folks.

It's too early for a forecast but historically, the weather on 19-20 Nov has had an average temperature of 65 deg, so with any luck, it should be nice. Come on
down!

We set a new high temperature record on Wednesday, but of course nothing stays constant with the weather. According to the "weather guessers" there is a cold front passing through on Friday before dawn that will bring a brief rain shower. The wind will pick up and practice day might be a little tricky. The wind forecast is GOOD! For Saturday is 5-10 out of the Northwest and for Sunday, 5-10 out of the South. HOWEVER, it's the temperature that is going to be an issue for the weekend. The weekend morning lows are predicted to be in the high 30's to low 40's and the highs in the upper 50's to low 60's, so be sure to bring warm clothes and layers so that you can adjust as the day warms up.

Thunderbird Field is located in Mustang Park on the south shore of Benbrook Lake. It is on property leased by the club from the US Army Corps of Engineers.

You will enter the access road to the park from FM 1187 at Winscott Plover Rd. There is a small sign.

GPS coordinates for the Corps of Engineers gate are 32.529209, -97.479741.
Or the address, 4300 Winscott Plover Road, Fort Worth TX can be entered.

This is the entrance to Mustang Park. At the gate, show your AMA card and ask for a "Thunderbird pass". You should be admitted without having to pay the Corps of Engineers fee.

Proceed through the gate to the 4-
way stop. Turn left .4 mi. to the field on the right.

Gary,

Do we need to bring pop-ups or is there cover?

Gary

Your choice. There is shelter with electrical power, but most racers prefer to put up their own tents. Either way is fine, just make sure that the tents are behind the AMA safety line (which I will point out)

I would like to congratulate Gary James on having the first 3 pole 424 / 426 race at the Thunderbirds Field outside Fort Worth Texas in roughly 11 or 12 years and it was a major success!!! Gary had an awesome group of help and officials / judges that did an outstanding job! The racing was just outstanding and I know the pilots really appreciated the hard work in this 2 day 4 races on! Thank you Gary James and all the great help it took to pull this off! Thank you sir!
Gary Fisher

Thanks Fish, and thanks to all of the attendees and workers in helping pull off the first 3-pole race in Texas in many years.

A Special Thanks to Dub Jett of Jett Engineering http://www.dubjett.com/ for the donation of a new Quickie Jett 426 engine for the drawing. The engine was won by Ken Hopson, who did an outstanding job in 424 and I'm sure that we will see him soon in 426.
