Default Strange as ST Q500 mufflers

Fellow racer's I have a ST Q500 running very well on 8.75x8.25 apc, with a long Ultra muffler. Centre of rear bolt to end 167 mm. I tried a shorter version 145 mm from rear bolt to the end and WILL NOT come on to pipe, same prop or prop's. This particular length pipe 145mm work's on Nelson's and any .46 engine. HELP Please. P.S. Here's a pic of the two

Whether or not an engine/prop combination will come up on the pipe is strictly determined by the rpms and the length of the pipe. The .46's you mentioned are probably turning the prop you have chosen at a higher rpm to begin with and thus this combination comes up on the pipe. Try a slightly lower picth prop to allow a higher rpm to begin with, that should solve the problem.

Are you talking about a Real Super Tigre Q-500 engine?
Or 40 or 45?

THE genuine Q-500 AS you say. I ran it in on a 8.5x4 bolly at 23000 rpm rich.

The largest prop we could use here in NZ with the ST Q500 short Nelson muffler FAI fuel was a APC 8.75x7.75nn, only the Nelson Q500 could spin a 8.75x8.25.

Gentlemen and all, Last Sunday 23-11-03 on the short pipe. The LHS gave me a prop to try,
APC carbon fibre 7.4x8 We got it dead right 18,400 on the ground in the air WOW and Double WOW.
This engine sounds almost Nelson ish...... but wing tip covering caused flutter 2/3rds right hand wing parted company bi bi . All servo's RS, battery vanished, plane yeh! dead Surprise Surprise,
Engine AOK, Prop gone , LHS has more. ( I did not build last one ),
Next week end a new test fly to come unfortunely It's only the latest Sonic it should still GO.

No they don't make them any more Since the factory and dies ect, have been sold to the chinese. The Chinese company are trying to redo all engines I have heard. When unknown.

I bought all of the pieces several years ago from Great Planes. Talk about expensive. If you still want one, one of my buddies still has the engine. We found it verey difficult to prop and needle.
