Hi, I got the new scat cat kit today from lone star balsa. Kind of like a time warp because everything is exactly the same as if I'd bought one 15 years ago. Same box, label, newspaper type plans etc. Amazing how some things never change. The balance point on the wing is exactly 2.5 inches behind the leading edge, someone asked me that and I guessed it would be 3. I'm looking forward to building one again for old times sake but I wonder if the scat cat would be competetive as a racer today.

The skat kat typically builds heavier than the modern kits, has an older "sport" airfoil, and really is not as fast as the planes that are available today.
That does not mean it is a bad plane by any means. Just more of a fast sport plane versus a competitive Q500 plane of today.

RE: Got the new Scat Cat 500 kit today.
I saw they had rereleased the Skat Kat. I've been wanting one of the Skooter II kits they used to have. Not any good for racing but it was always my favorite sport plane. I scrounged an old kit here on RCU a couple years ago but it met an untimely demise. I think it was the best one I ever had. I talked to Riley's boy a while back and he said it would be unlikely they would rerelease it. What a shame!
