424 engines
Is there some reason that everyone is using the thunder tiger engines for 424, because I am running a super tigre and dont see what the big advantage of a T.T. is. I like and have always run super tigre engines, and I should also still be able to race with this engine because it is legal in the ama rules right?

RE: 424 engines
There is NO reason why you can't run a supertiger engine in 424. Most people use the TT40 because they seem to to run well and are a cheap engine. I know that the OLDER supertigers ran well, but parts for them might be hard to find. I haven't used any of the newer versions so i have no experience to compare the performance to a thunder tiger.

i don't think a super tiger will turn a 9x6 at 17000 after brake in and stock. i know thunder tiger will. i have 4 of them and they allrun close to 17000 (depends on the day). besides is only $80.

How does a OS .40 FX stack up? And on the Thunder Tigers, what plug, and about how are you setting the needles? How rich on the ground? Unless this is all classified...I haven't run my TT in a while, but it seems I was getting around 16,500, 15% nitro, this one may just be weak, or suffered a bad break-in. No "real" racing around here, so I have to lurk here to find out any info. Sure would be nice to get a good race here, we have to settle for B&H Hobbies "Rookies" for a club racer. Slower than Vipers, but it's at least we have a some good racing!

RE: 424 engines
Well I broke the super tigre in today w/ cut down 11x7 to 6" and ran three 12 oz. tanks through it working it up to and letting it 4 stroke at 16,800 rpms for about a tank and a half, put a zinger 9x6 on it and it peaked at 14,700 rpms w/ 10% nitro. Do you think I will be able to get 16,500 with the the apc 9x6 pylon prop and 15% nitro?

Willfly,
The ST GS .40 won't spin as high as the Thunder Tiger Pro .40, but it seems to be slightly "torkier". If the local contest director will let you use an APC 9 x 7 or 9 x 8, you may be able to keep up.
I agree with you, the Supertigres are fine engines.

DHG, thats one of the reasons I have always liked the super tigres, hopefully it will do well, im sure it will kick up a bit with the new fuel and prop if not I may have to break down and get one of the thunder tigers but hopefully not. Thanks for the help
