City of Lakes Race July 29th...
Not that anyone would make the trip to Amery, WI to race but I thought I would post it anyway.. The best part is you'll have about 2800' of roll out room if you land a little hot...
It is only an hour drive from the Minneapolis/St.Paul airport and about 6 hours from Chicago, IL ..
The race will be one day 422 & 428 with the rain day the 30th... Anyone that wants to attend can.. The race will be run by the NCPL...

The 428 race that was scheduled for July 29th at Elk River was moved because of some other contest going on at a field about a mile away from there... I got it approved at Amery so we figured we might as well do 422 too..

Allright!!!!
Great job pulling this together Lee, can't wait, a 422 race closer than 700 miles
Definately need a map to the field and the hotel.
$49 a night, I can't wait. Elert gets his own room, he snores.

Here's a map from the airport(MSP) to Amery.. I figure even a mudduck can figure it out from there
As far as finding anything goes, it's not a big enough town to get lost in...

Sounds great... I talked to the guy at the hotel and it sounded like there were a few rooms left after I held a couple rooms for the guys at the Nats...

Well, we had our race. We found a really nice place. I mean Lee did. We had a great day. I hope my departing present doesn't spoil things too much. I thought about it on the way home and felt bad about it. Sorry Lee.
Man I tell ya' if we can come back that is the sweetest place. Nothing like a airport to play with our toys.
I tied for first in quickie. AJ gave us a Q40 lesson. Sweet flying
Many thanks to hosts and friends
Any Knob Creek left?

It was a great race, and a great place too race. We definately need to work on a plan to put more races on there. For those that stayed the night, the hotel about a mile from the field was just fine and at $50 a night, a heck of a good deal.
We dodged a serious bullet, the weatherman predicted 100 degree weather with high humidity, we lucked out with heavy cloud cover and a little rain in the morning which kept temps in the low 90's.
We had a great group of workers from Amery, including Lee's Parents, and a few from the Twin Cities that made the trip. Thanks Ron, Julie, Dick, Phil, Dave, and super splatters daughters boyfriend I'm hoping I'm not forgetting anyone.
This field is giving me the urge to try f3d, someone smack me.
Great job Lee, lots of fun!

It wasn't too bad.. I was starting to worry win the morning shower didn't stop like the radar said it was going to.. It was a great time and I think the first time I've ever landed a quickie on asphalt..
I'll see if I can get some of the stats posted, I think Chuck has all the paper work and times.
Jesse, I don't think the smokey burnout will cause any issues.. Well, not with me anyway By the way, the Knob Creek bottle was dry, along with both coolers... Good times...

Lee that was one great race, had a good time except for Seahome hitting me. How many different Quickies were flown and which had fastest time?

I'll shoot Chuck and email and see if he has them in electronic form yet.. All I know is my times sucked.. I did manage a top five in Q40 even with a plane that was about unflyable.. I think it's time that one gets retired to the shelf...

Randy, I do have to say, that was the strangest mid-air I've seen.. That BofP was stuck to your R-200 from #2 to #3 and chewing it up the whole time.. I'm suprised it took so long for yours to come apart.. It was like slow motion at 160 mph. I should have taken a picture of AJ's motor with the R-200 pieces stuck in the fins on the head.. If it makes you feel any better, upon further inspection, there were a few cracks in the BofP around the firewall and wing hold down..

Etken,
You scuffed my vehicle and my prop. Is this how you treat all your visitors? I suppose it will make for some excellent bench racing ammo this winter.
It was a good race right up to the point we tried to occupy the same air space...
It was great to fly and hang out with the MN/WI crew this weekend. Good times.
Thanks Lee for hosting the contest and the great hospitality. The T-bone was top notch. The Knob Creek wasn't too bad either.
Look forward to the next one.

Any time AJ.. Too bad you couldn't have stayed a couple more days, you could have woke up this morning to an inch of water around your bed..
