Q500 break in stand
Can you guys post some pics of the break in stands you use to break in your nelson and jett engines. I need to break in a nelson and I need to design some sort of motor mount or stand for this purpose. Winterfest is coming up and i need to be ready!!!

yup watching them run on stand never helps my flying. Not that I'm against breaking them in on a stand but my flying needs all the help it can get so the Nelsons get broken in going around me.

RE: Q500 break in stand
I made my own out of scrap wood. I have a Q40 mount facing one direction, and a Q500 style backplate mount that is 90 degrees to that. It has one fuel tank in the middle. I use wood screws and screw it to one of our heavy work tables at the field in the corner of the table. Its nice having two motors on one stand, as you can break two engines in in about the same time as it would take one. Just be carefull changing fuel / pressure lines as the motors are hot!
I'll take a picture of it tonight, its not real pretty, but functional. I like to get about 10 tanks through each motor on the ground (with extra castor in the fuel) before putting it on a plane and flying.

I bet after the 6th or 7th tank of a Q40 and a Quickie Nelson running on the bench simultaneously the sport flyers just love you!
IMO... it is good for them to see and hear a real motor!

I use the American test stand from PST.
Very good quality for 15-210 engines.
On the pictures you see the BVM ´91 on testruns with different heads ( volumes ) for best performance for my speed plane.
Best regards Michael

The truth is Ed's turning into one of those cranky old guys at the field flying their converted RC, 4-stroke powered old-time free-flight airplanes, Kadet Sr's, ect, that complains about people flying loud, fast, pylon racers.

My Dear Friend Gary,
Far quicker than you realise or want, the years will slip by and you will be one of those "Cranky old guys"

Getting old sucks... but it beats the alternatives!
I was shopping at the bookstore yesterday... and a 50+ year old woman was trying to flirt with me.... after the initial eeauuwh.... I realized... she was my age.
Reality also sucks!

Ed, yes, I know I'll get old sometime (hell, most of my hair has already left), but I'm going to be in denial as long as I can remember it, and when I get "oldstimers", I won't care anymore! It's hard to believe I'm going to be 35 in less than two months, and have spent over half my life racing toy airplanes around poles. I hope I never grow up.

Gary,
You spent only a quarter of your life racing toy airplanes around poles. You spent another quarter of your life going inside the poles - still a far better ratio than me!

Ok Scott, if you want ot put it that way, I spent a quarter going around them, an eighth going inside, and an eighth trying to go through them!
