I believe I got the first Predator shipped to Minnesota and my wing had to go back also because it was warped, but they treated me fairly. I raced it all season and did quite well, but that was several years ago.

No Dave I have had to do alot to keep my covering on my Pred 2 . I beleave the Vipper is your best bet for racing in local races for now. I realy hated to say that because I do love my Pred , but the fact is the Vipper will beat the Pred hands down.

I ordered my White Viper from the local hobby store today, and my TT from the source mentioned above. Hopefully the covering is not too bad, I will have to put some green on the tips, and some checks inside that for a little color.

I'm really hoping to make the Hilbert, WI race in May if I can get everything ready and running by then. Anyone looking for a partner for that race? I will need some help with the slower planes on the long course, and would be happy to help anyone else that needs assistance.

No go on the TT motor from Thunder Tigre 4U, they sent me a backorder email today. No stock till mid May, so I had to cancel the order.

I'll try Tower.

Boca bearings has a large cross reference for all kinds of RC engines. Here's OS:
[link=http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=showsearchforpage&bc=SK&type=K&cat=rccrossrefguide&pg=2&mfr=6]Boca OS Engines[/link]

Here's the list of all engines:
[link=http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=showsubcat&cat=crossref&pg=2]All Engines[/link]

They are fairly proud of their bearings, but what the heck when you make the big bucks why not get the best? Duane, go for the ceramic!

They also have a FAQ that may help some of y'all
[link=http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=help#four]Bearing INFO[/link]

I'm not promoting their bearings, just presenting another source as you can actually use their information to find the exact sizes of bearings, RPM ratings etc. Once you have that information you can go to any manufacturer for a substitute.

Cheers,
SD

The last few OS AX bearings I replaced with ceramics/stainless races from rc-bearings. About $30 for a set.

I'm going to give the stock bearings a try and see what I think. I reorded the motor from Tower.

Stan,

Wow, thanks for the comprehensive info! But, I did already order from Tower so I'm going with the "minimalist" upgrade, at least for now. I'd like to be able to show off my low-budget racer at a club meeting without having to 'fess up to spending nearly half again the price of the engine on one replacement bearing! If I tell people they can safely over-rev for just an extra $18.50, that's not so bad.

Of course it may turn out that for Q40 Sport, a heavier prop such as a 9 x 8 actually works better, so the high-rpm bearings may not even be an issue. Ya never know.

Off topic, but what the heck.

Duane, I think you'll find that Q-40 Sport planes do better with APC 8x8 or 8x9 props at lower rpm's. I tried the 7.4x8 and while the speed was good, I felt like the engine was turning too much. I crunched that plane before I got to the 8x8 and 8x9.

On the topic of the bearings, I have one TT Pro 40 engine with the www.rc-bearings.com ceramics and it's done well so far. No advantage, but no spalling or rust either.

Well, the white Viper showed up last night. I went and picked it up from the local hobby store. Every time I'm there I see something neat, last night I noticed an O.S. .61RF Hanno special in the glass case, not sure if it had the red pipe, or the price, but I know its a pretty sought after motor.

Brought the Viper home, and took a good luck. Plenty of wrinkles, but better than the last wing I received. I think I can get these out with a heat gun and iron. The wing feels heavy to me, but I don't have a scale. My TT showed up also, but I shipped it to my house in Minnesota rather than here, so I won't get to see it for a couple weeks.

Plane looks fine to me, but I was a little surprised at how lite the balsa is behind the servo tray back to the tail. Quite a bit of glass and tri stock in the engine area, looks pretty good.

It took me about 2 hours tonight to workout the wrinkles in my viper with my iron. I forgot I took it with.

I'm use to UltraCote, so it took me a while to crank up the heat. That really helped with the Monokote.

I had to work out some of the bigger bubbles with a towel right after I heated them, but I got nearly all of the wrinkles out.

I see a slightly twist in the fuse, but nothing I'll notice in 424, the wing looks straight.

I found if you put little pin holes in the bubbles in the covering and press out with a hot towel after heating it sticks a lot better cause the air escapes through the pin holes.

I took a good look at the wheels, they don't look bad, what fails on them?

the plastic wheels pop off the brass hub on touch down and your prop loses a few inches and puts racing stripes on your muffler. I used ca glue and its ok with about 5 flights. still looking for better ones. i will let you know what I find. rob.

Thanks Rob, I was thinking about gluing those bushings in place. Seems like a waste not to use them, they look decent.

I have wheels at home, just not here. I'll be heading home in a couple weeks, so I'll just pick them up then.

Well,

The viper is done, and looks pretty good. The wing bolts don't line up perfectly, but I can get it bolted in place. The V-tail is way off center when its bolted into place, but I'm leaving it.

Put 5 tanks of fuel through my TT .40 today, and it ran quite well. I used a 9x5 APC prop, and it peaked close to 18k. I ran it around 16 - 16.5 K and pinched the line about every 15-20 seconds to warm things up.

I'm not a member of the field yet, and it was pretty windy and cold, so I didn't fly it. (NO one else was at the field). I hope I can meet the safety officer in the next few days to qualify the sound of a few of my planes. I'm not confident with my Nelson stuff, but hopefully my sport stuff passes.

I'd take a picture, but I don't have a camera here, but it looks a lot like my polecat

Sounds good Dave. The weather down here is not good either. I wanted to fly two of my birds tomarrow but they say it will be 20 to 25 MPH wends. Looks like me and my family will be in the hot tub at Schlitterbahn all day tomarrow.

the black apc 7.4 x8 works well on the t/t46 and viper, on the radargun insignificant difference between that and a 9x6 apc. trevor h[:-]

Thanks bigtrev. I was not aware we could get the same speed out of a black APC 7.4X8. I wounder what the wood 9X6 prop is compared to a Nylon 9X6 APC prop.
