Nelson q40 on a Pred II
Got a Pred II flying now with a Jet 50, just aquired a Nelson Q40 motor. Wondering if the airframe will handle the nelson or will I bust the wing in high g turns?
Thanks

RE: Nelson q40 on a Pred II
I know there are quite a few guys running the quickie nelson on the Pred II without any issues.. The problem you may encounter with the Q40 engine is the small prop combined with the fairly dirty (draggy) airframe of a quickie.. It may not be able to to get going and unload..
Of coarse, I may be wrong, it's happend before

With a quickie airframe, you need at least an 8" diameter prop, due to airframe drag. The Q40 engines are timed for higher rpm, so to run a larger than normal diameter prop the pitch will need to be fairly low.
I ran a cut down Rev-up 8 3/4 x 6 1/2 on a quickie with a Nelson Q40 engine for break-in when Q40 was a new event and airplanes were just coming out.

I don't think your going to notice any additional speed switching motors.
Personally, I wouldn't feel safe with a Predator wing and a Jett .50.
Seen too many fold.

Didnt think about the drag of the airframe, duh.
Daven, youve seen pred wings fold? There was a guy at the field that said he could see my wing flexing, thought he was crazy, maybe not.
Guess I better make some wider turns or be prepared for a lawn dart.
Thanks

Predator II & Nelson or Jett?
Unpredictable wood/build quality
No carbon
No Spar
No Way!
Just a time bomb and a question of how many load unload cycles it will take. But I would be glad to watch if you would be kind enough to put it on YouTube!

RE: Nelson q40 on a Pred II
In dist VIII we are using arf type airframes in AMA 428. Most of the ones used are Vipers, but the pred II is used as well. I have never seen any failures that were not caused by midairs etc. I think you will be fine with a 428 motor on the predII airframe as long as it has never been compromised. I can not comment on the original predator since I have never seen one of them used in 428.
