qm 40 engine on a lanier q500 predator 2 arf
can anyone shed light on this before i go fly tommorow
will a qm 40 prop work with the q500 plane or can the qm40 jett engine take a apc 8.8 prop x 7.0 ( the ines used on q500 planes
reason is i am deciding tonight wether to put a rossi40 with tuned pipe or the qm40 engine on a lanier predator 2 ARF
open for all suggestions
thanks

Izzy,
The QM40 engine does not like a big prop that size. It is designed for the 7 inch diameter props. With an 8.8 or 8.75 prop it won't even get on the pipe. If using a 7 inch prop on a Q500 airframe like you are proposing, you will not see much of a gain in airspeed due to the aerodynamic drag of the Q500 airframe.

The Jett is easy to run. use the correct prop, allow it to spin in the 23,000's with 800-1000 left in it when pinched, no muss no fuss.
Big question:
Does your total combination of equipment allow you to do that? Yes? spin that fast, on the ground? Than chances are something weighing less than 4+ lbs. will want to move forward.
does it have to be a Q-40? Not really, as long as it can fly 160+ MPH's, it will.
No? It can't spin that fast? Stop, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. You'll just wreck what you got.
Wood is safer than grey APC at that RPM. We use the black plastic for safety.
Look down the page here, some asked the same question, start with somthing like 9x6 or 8.5x7 wood.
trim the tips and rebalance till the engine spins that fast.
BIG TIP: Only attempt to tune or needle for 1 minute of operation. Shut down. Allow it to cool before contining tuning or getting ready for flight. It gets hot real quick and it won't come back and you can't read the engine in this state.

Yes, the black plastic we use (the APC carbon reinforce), NOT master airscrew, or any of the other cheaper plastic props.
Another thought would be to pick up a Q500 piston and sleeve, and swap those out for your Q40 internals. I know with a Nelson you can switch them out pretty easily, I imagine its no different with a Jett, but I would check with Dubb first.
