Jett Q500 LS arrived
Guys
I am really pleased to tell you that my Jett Q500 LS arrived today, first impressions are very favorable.
The question many people will ask is how much heavier is the BSE type engine than cast case, well the answer is 14 grams (1/2oz) I can live with that with no problem as my best model carries ballast to make minimum weight. You will notice that this engine is with a venturi for Europa Cup Q500 racing, the eagle eyed of you will also see that the engine has an eight bolt head rather than the cast case engines six bolt head.
I don't think Dub is taking any chances with these new engines as it had been run before dispatch, I don't remember that the cast case engines had been run before I received them.
I will probably get a chance to run and fly the engine this weekend coming up and will report back my findings.
Roll on the racing season!
Regards
Barrie

Looks great, as far as I know, Dub runs every engine before sending out with a specific prop for that motor. If it doesn't hit his minimum RPM level he won't send it.

Europa Cup Q500 allows any intake up to 12mm dia, some people my self included opt to run with a venturi rather than the air valve from the US Q500 engines, both PS and Jett will sell the engines equiped this way if asked. the venturi goes some of the way to clawing back the loss by running on 80:20 fuel.
I have no experience of running Nelson engines (of any type) but the cast case Jett on 80:20 is very sweet to handle,I personally dont see the need to run nitro in the European climate. Maybe different else where.

European rules-
Basically the same as US rules but allowing bigger venturis but restricted to 80:20 fuel, and races result decided on times as per F3D rather than finishing position.

Geoff, I've always been aware of the european venturi rule. Tony Thompson and I discussed it when he was writing the NZ q500 rules, Trevor H

Trevor, I think you will find that I wrote the New Zealand Q 500 rules, and was the person who got the class into the NZ rule book, not Tony Thompson or yourself.[X(] It is now the biggest class of Pylon in New Zealand, contrary to what the knockers said.

Yes Jeff, I made a mistake- delete the words 'q500' from my above missive and install 'SPORTSMAN and INTERMEDIATE' TREVOR H

RE: Jett Q500 LS arrived
OK, I have run the engine on the ground and in the air.
There are two important things to say at this stage
1) The engine handles superbly, just as well as the cast case engine.
2) It is fast
I have not got any RPM figures at the moment, as I would like to get a few more flights on it before I push the needle setting to the limit. I really felt like the engine was putting the airframe (Lyle built Bird of Pray) under some serious stress, I have been doing this pylon thing since 1982 and I know the feeling when you have stepped up a gear, it is good!!
I can't wait to get this one around the course and see what kind of times I can get out of it.

Barrie,
thank you for this first information about the new LS Quicky Jett.
How much head clearance do you adjust without Nitro?

I ran the engine as it came from the factory at .011" , I normally run at 0.016" on the cast case engine, I will get more time to fly the engine this weekend and maybe try different head gap.

Hi Barrie
Just to let you know mine arrived on monday, I've been supplied with the USA Q500 Carb not the venturi could be interesting to run them side by side. Were of to Sculthorpe on the 2nd March for a practice session, fancy coming along?

I doubt that I will go to Sculthorpe, it is one long trip for me, it is more driving than going to Tours for me! I will probably concentrate on Q500 testing in the south and go to Cottesmore for F3D testing on the 30th March with my RI Profi powered one piece Evo (well the airframe is Paul Bardoes).
Should be able to get out with the Q500 again this weekend, will keep you up to speed.

What's the new stroke on the Jett LS rod now? The previous generation quickie motor had a .708 stroke, but I have not check with Dub for the new LS motor yet. I'm sure the new motor will have higher numbers, but not sure what it is yet.
I spoke to Dub briefly today at the Q40 race in Phoenix and was suprised that his new Jett LS have a lot more torque than the Nelson. With that being said, running big props shouldn't be a problem, but there was a hint that he will push the envelope a little further with more top-end RPM since there's plenty of torque to be had. Just something to think about when you're racing that new LS motor. [sm=wink_smile.gif]
