I heard at one time that the Palomar field was holding VERY low keyed Racing with their own twist of rules,,, not sure if they are still doing it now. The only 2 places that I know of are at Whittier Narrows and the Basin,,, from your location the Whittier field approx 160 miles and the Basin 200 plus(?)

Camp Pendleton has a great place to fly but the waiting list is long.

Unfortunately Bill's right, the closest Q500 racing that I know of is in the LA area. There used to be races down in Chula Vista until the late 80's/early 90's, but the environmentalists put an end to it. I haven't had time to do any sport flying or anything and haven't been to any of the San Diego area fields in some time, but of the ones I've been to in the past, none were really suitable for traditional three-pylon Q500 racing. I'm in the Carmel Valley area, and am more to happy to help with any questions you may have. Just ask away or send me a PM.

Those races at Border Field State park were so much fun. I was bummed when we quit racing there. I remember the local club would host about 2 races a year.

Yep. I only went there once, in 1989. It was pretty wild thinking that just past pylon one was the ocean, and not far south was the Tijuana bullring. I remember we made a wrong turn getting into the field, and ended up by the border fence. There was a hole in the fence, and about four people were sitting their waiting for their "ride".

I remember on several occasions seeing people running thru the course while heats were going on. I once found someones green card and it wasn't mine

When i think back though we raced on sunday only. Now they are all 2 day races for the out of town travelers, so about the same amount of race days a year, just spread out more.
